Position Summary
The Outdoor Department/Operations Manager provides hands-on leadership to retail staff and directly supports the Store Manager, Workforce Manager, and other Department Managers to ensure smooth store operations. The Outdoor Department/Operations Manager directly supervises sales floor staff to ensure daily tasks are executed, store policies are followed, and training is enforced. This position also acts as the Outdoor Department Manager. Approximately 40-50% of the position time is devoted to Outdoor Department-specific tasks.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with onboarding new employees.
- Develop, coordinate, and host training programs to ensure employees are successful and confident in their roles.
- Assist department managers with employee development and performance improvement.
- Provide daily on-the-floor management of staff to ensure the store runs smoothly and professionally.
- Foster a positive, respectful, and team-focused workplace.
- Act as Manager-on-Duty when required.
- Other duties as assigned by the Store Manager.
Outdoor Department-Specific
- Maintain smooth daily operations within the assigned department; ensure merchandise availability and organization.
- Monitor product turnover and report low or high-performing items to the Store Manager.
- Ensure that department areas remain clean, well-stocked, and visually consistent with store standards.
- Assist Store Manager with purchasing and order tracking for assigned department.
- Provide product feedback and purchasing recommendations to Store Manager.
- Support store opening and closing duties when assigned.
- Assist in implementing promotions, sales events, and merchandising resets.
- Maintain records related to department supplies, materials, and vendor contacts.
- Serve as an information resource for other employees within the department.
- Provide product knowledge and excellent service to customers.
- Ensure signage and pricing are accurate and up to date.
- Communicate customer feedback and product requests to management.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s degree preferred.
- Preferred two (2) or more years of experience in retail operations or purchasing.
- Strong product knowledge and familiarity with vendor processes.
- Competence with POS and inventory systems (Lightspeed experience preferred).
- Excellent communication, organization, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
Physical & Work Environment Requirements
- Frequent walking, standing, and lifting up to 40 lbs.
- Work performed on the sales floor, in stockrooms, and occasionally in office areas.
- May require weekends, holidays, or evenings based on store needs.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Provide direct supervision of department staff.

Pay: $20.00 - $26.00 per hour
