Donor & Family Coordinator-Organ (Spanish language required)
The Donor & Family Coordinator-Organ (DFCO) responds to hospitals to gather case information and provide support to donor families throughout the donation process. DFCOs are responsible for having discussions with families about their loved one’s options to become an organ donor as they make end of life decisions. In addition, in some donor cases, the DFCO accompanies the family to the operating room.
This role is scheduled to work 12, 24-hour shifts, per month. After training, the position is self-scheduled with some weekend requirements. While the position is 24 hours, the bulk of the work happens between 8a-10p.
Accurately and sensitively deliver information around organ donation to donor families, as they make end-of-life decisions. This includes working with families in grief and during crisis. An empathetic approach to educate about the organ donation process and the gifts that can be given, is crucial.
Communication is key. The DFCO communicates with internal staff, external hospital staff, as well as families of patients. A large amount of clinical information is exchanged, so familiarity with medical terminology or clinical processes is beneficial.
The right person for this role will be, or become, comfortable being in a variety of hospital environments, including intensive care units and operating rooms.
Here at Donor Alliance, we’re committed to cultivating a workforce as dynamic and diverse as the community we serve.
