Overview
This position can be structured as a hybrid role, with the flexibility to work remotely part of the week. However, regular time in our Lafayette office and engineering lab will be required for collaboration, prototyping, testing, and team interaction.
Steiner Enterprises is looking for an experienced Electrical Design Engineer to join our growing engineering team in Lafayette, Indiana.
We design and develop custom OEM products and solutions for customers across a variety of industries. Our engineers work on everything from the initial concept through design, prototyping, testing, and production.
We’ve been around for more than 30 years, and we still have an ongoing partnership with our very first customer. Put simply, our customers like us—and we think that says a lot about the kind of company we are.
This is an opportunity for an experienced electrical engineer who enjoys solving problems, designing real products, getting into the lab, and seeing their work go from an idea to something that actually gets built.
What You'll Be Doing
You will be involved in a wide variety of electrical engineering projects, including:
- Designing and developing printed circuit boards (PCBs) from concept through production
- Designing high-current and high-power DC power systems
- Selecting and working with a variety of microprocessors and embedded components
- Working with embedded programming languages such as C, C++, and C#
- Translating conceptual designs into production-ready electrical designs
- Creating complete electrical schematics, PCB layouts, bills of materials, and production documentation
- Selecting components and evaluating alternatives for cost, availability, performance, and reliability
- Building and testing prototypes in the engineering lab
- Troubleshooting and debugging electrical and electronic systems
- Working closely with mechanical engineers, firmware engineers, manufacturing, and customers
- Supporting products through development and into production
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
- 5+ years of professional electrical engineering experience
- Strong experience with PCB design and development
- Experience designing high-current/high-power DC circuits
- Experience with microprocessors and embedded systems
- Experience with C and/or C++; C# experience is a plus
- Experience taking an electrical design from concept through prototype and into production
- Ability to develop complete schematics, PCB layouts, BOMs, and production documentation
- Experience with electrical CAD software; Altium experience is strongly preferred
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently while also collaborating closely with a small engineering team
- A hands-on approach to engineering—you enjoy building, testing, troubleshooting, and figuring things out
The Team
We're expanding into new markets and adding capacity to our engineering team.
We're a small and mighty group. When we're not sitting at our computers, you'll often find us in the engineering lab brainstorming designs, building prototypes, testing products, or trying to figure out why something that worked perfectly yesterday suddenly doesn't.
And yes, we have some pretty cool tools.
If you enjoy working with smart, hard-working, innovative engineers and want to have a meaningful role in developing real products—not just drawing them on a screen—we'd like to hear from you.
Why Steiner?
We've been designing and manufacturing products for more than 30 years. We're an established company, but we're not a giant corporation where your role is limited to one small piece of a project.
Our engineers have the opportunity to design, build, test, troubleshoot, and see their work become a finished product.
And we're growing.
