Collections Specialists
Reports To: Director of Revenue Cycle
Position Summary
Seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Collection and Posting candidate to manage the cycle of posting and collecting activities for accounts. This dual-function role is responsible for accurate posting of insurance and patient payments with practice follow-up on outstanding accounts receivables. The ideal candidate ensures collections captured are reconciled and accounted for.
Responsibilities:
Payment Posting
1. Post electronic ERA/835 and manual EOB payments from insurance payors and patients.
2. Accurately identify and post adjustment, denials and recoupments based on payer contracts.
3. Research and resolve ‘unapplied’ or unidentified payments.
Collections
1. Monitor accounts for receivable ageing reports to identify overdue claims.
2. Investigate denied, underpaid, or ignored claims by communicating with insurance payers via portals or phone.
3. Process appeals for clinical and technical denials in a timely manner.
4. Communicate professionally with patients regarding outstanding balances and set up payment plans when necessary.
Quality & Compliance
1. Maintain HIPAA compliance regarding patient financial and health information.
2. Document all collection efforts and payment notes clearly within the Practice Management system (QMS Focus2000)
3. Identify and report recurring payor trends or systemic billing errors to management.
Required Qualifications and Skills
1. Experience: 2+ years in healthcare billing, collections, or revenue cycle management.
2. Knowledge; strong understanding of EOB; s ERAs, CPT/ICD-10 coding, and the claim cycle.
3. Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel,
4. Analytical Ability; High level of accuracy in data entry and the ability to spot discrepancies in complex financial documents.
5. Communication: Excellent verbal and written skills for negotiating with payers and assisting patients
