Position Summary
Slater Compassion Center is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented Assistant Cannabis Chef to join our Production Team. This position is responsible for assisting in the production of high-quality cannabis-infused edibles, ingestibles, topicals, and beverages while maintaining the highest standards of food safety, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance.
Working under the direction of the Kitchen Manager/Head Edible Chef, the Assistant Cannabis Chef will prepare products using standardized recipes, maintain accurate production records, package finished products, and ensure the kitchen remains clean, organized, and compliant with all Rhode Island Cannabis Control Commission regulations and Slater Compassion Center Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a culinary, baking, food production, or manufacturing background who enjoys working in a fast-paced, highly regulated environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare cannabis-infused edibles, ingestibles, beverages, and topical products following standardized production recipes.
- Perform large-scale batch production while maintaining consistency, potency, and product quality.
- Measure, weigh, mix, and prepare ingredients with precision.
- Assist with cannabis infusion processes, including infused oils, butter, and other infusion mediums.
- Operate commercial kitchen equipment safely and efficiently.
- Coordinate food and beverage preparation from production through packaging and labeling.
- Package, label, and prepare finished products for inventory and retail sale.
- Maintain accurate production logs, inventory records, and batch documentation.
- Report weekly productivity and communicate production needs to the Kitchen Manager/Head Edible Chef and Production Operations Manager as needed.
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of all kitchen equipment, utensils, appliances, sheet pans, worktables, countertops, floors, and production areas.
- Keep the kitchen clean, organized, and inspection-ready at all times.
- Follow all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), food safety standards, and sanitation procedures.
- Wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including gloves, hairnets, beard nets (when applicable), and appropriate kitchen attire.
- Assist with inventory management of ingredients, packaging supplies, and finished products.
- Monitor product quality throughout the manufacturing process and report any discrepancies immediately.
- Work collaboratively with production staff to meet daily and weekly production goals.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Associate degree from a two-year college or technical school preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Six months to one year of experience in a commercial kitchen, bakery, food manufacturing, cannabis production, or similar production environment preferred.
- Experience working with recipes and large-batch food production is highly desirable.
- Previous cannabis industry experience is a plus but not required.

- Strong mathematical skills, including basic arithmetic and the ability to accurately scale recipes.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Ability to follow detailed recipes, production instructions, and SOPs.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced production environment.
- Ability to communicate effectively with coworkers and supervisors.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Flexible and adaptable to changing production schedules and priorities.
- Ability to remain calm and productive under pressure.
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Experience with production software, labeling systems, printers, or inventory software is a plus.
- Knowledge of Rhode Island cannabis regulations and cannabis-infused products is preferred but not required.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods throughout the workday.
- Frequent bending, lifting, reaching, kneeling, and repetitive hand movements.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work safely around commercial kitchen equipment, ovens, stovetops, and production machinery.
- Ability to withstand temperature changes associated with commercial kitchen operations.
- Ability to maintain strict personal hygiene and food safety standards.
Work Environment
Work is performed in a commercial cannabis production kitchen. The environment may be warm and fast-paced due to ovens, stovetops, ventilation systems, and production equipment. Employees should be available to work varied shifts, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events as business needs require.
