Step into a rewarding contract opportunity as a full-time Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) supporting high school students ages 14–21. Located near the vibrant Staten Island area, this role focuses on empowering students with diverse communication needs, including those with autism, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, and other genetic disorders. Many of the students are non-verbal and rely on Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) devices, providing a unique chance to make a tangible difference in their daily lives.
Key Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology
- Valid SLP-CCC (Certificate of Clinical Competence)
- Relevant licensure for school-based practice
- Experience working with students who are non-verbal and proficient with AAC devices
- Strong background supporting individuals with developmental or genetic disorders
- Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams
Responsibilities:
- Deliver direct speech and language therapy to high school students during hours of 8:00 AM – 2:00 PM
- Assess individual communication needs and plan targeted interventions
- Develop and implement strategies that encourage functional communication, including AAC device support
- Collaborate closely with teachers, aides, and other professionals to foster a supportive learning environment
- Document progress regularly and contribute to IEP meetings
- Offer training and support to school staff and families for AAC integration and continued communication growth
