American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg RN for a 13-week night shift assignment requiring 2+ years of experience and NIHSS certification.
-
Acute care setting on a 52-bed Med/Surg unit with all private rooms
-
Patient population includes ortho, neuro, and general post-op patients, hemodialysis, and various medical diagnoses (COPD, CP, pneumonia, cellulitis, etc)
-
Peritoneal dialysis experience highly preferred
-
Patient ratios of approximately 1:6-7 on both day and night shifts
-
12-hour night shifts (1845-0715)
-
36 guaranteed hours per week
-
Every-other-weekend requirement (3 weekends out of a 6-week schedule), Fri/Sat nights
-
Uses Sunrise EMR
-
Remote telemetry monitoring available as needed on a different unit; RNs not required to read strips
-
Common drips include Heparin, PCAs with MSO4, and occasional Ativan gtt; no cardiac gtts or insulin drips
-
Intermittent Bipap, Cpap, and High Flow support
-
IV Team and PICC Team available 24/7; RNs assess IV sites but do not start their own IVs
-
Hospitalist, Intensivist, RT, and Pharmacy in-house 24/7
-
Floating may be required to other Med/Surg or Med/Surg/Oncology units, or IMC for overflow (no gtts)
-
Charge Nurse takes a full patient assignment, supported by a Clinical Assistant
-
CNAs support the unit at a ratio of approximately 1:10-12
-
Active WV or Compact RN license required
-
BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certification required
-
ACLS certification is a plus
-
Minimum 2 years of RN experience required

BSN not required
-
Experience with peritoneal dialysis highly preferred
-
Must reside within a 50-mile radius of the facility
-
Provide direct patient care to a diverse Med/Surg population including post-surgical and medical patients
-
General hospital orientation followed by 2 full shifts of unit-specific orientation
-
Scrub requirement: navy blue top and bottom, navy scrub jackets, no hoodies
-
Holiday coverage required as part of the standard rotation schedule

Cancellation policy allows for 2 shifts per 13-week contract

COVID-positive patients typically remain on this unit unless extended wait for test results requires transfer to the COVID unit
