In this role, you'll collaborate closely with Product Managers, engineers, and cross-functional teams to design intuitive, elegant experiences for highly technical users in the scientific and life sciences space. You'll transform complex workflows into simple, user-centered solutions that enable researchers and scientists to work more efficiently and make discoveries faster.
This is an opportunity to own the end-to-end design process while contributing to products that have meaningful real-world impact.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with Product Managers as a strategic design partner to define product problems, shape product direction, and explore innovative solution spaces.
- Translate complex scientific concepts and workflows into intuitive, user-centered experiences.
- Own the UX design lifecycle from discovery, ideation, and wireframing through high-fidelity mockups, prototyping, and engineering handoff.
- Create multiple design concepts and iterate quickly based on feedback, research, and validation.
- Develop interactive prototypes to communicate ideas and validate user experiences.
- Build, maintain, and evolve scalable design systems, component libraries, and design standards.
- Advocate for usability, accessibility, and inclusive design while ensuring compliance with WCAG best practices.
- Conduct user research and usability testing, translating findings into measurable product improvements.
- Collaborate within Agile product teams, working closely with engineering throughout implementation.
- Stay current on UX trends, emerging technologies, and AI-powered design tools that improve design workflows and product quality.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in UX Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field, or a background in biological sciences combined with significant UX design experience.
- 3–7 years of professional UX/Product Design experience designing software products from concept through launch.
- Experience designing products for scientific, healthcare, biotech, or life sciences users is a plus.
- Expert proficiency with Figma and a portfolio demonstrating strong UX process, problem-solving, and visual design skills.
- Experience creating rapid prototypes to communicate ideas and validate solutions.
- Familiarity with design systems, component libraries, and design tokens.
- Experience with Storybook is a plus.
- Comfortable incorporating AI tools into research, ideation, prototyping, and AI-assisted design-to-code workflows.
- Experience working within Agile development environments.
- Strong understanding of user-centered design methodologies, usability principles, and accessibility standards (WCAG).
- Excellent visual, interaction, and interface design skills with strong attention to detail and thoughtful micro-interactions.
- Outstanding communication and storytelling abilities with the ability to present complex ideas clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Creative thinker who thrives in ambiguous problem spaces and enjoys exploring multiple solution paths.
- Proven ability to deliver high-quality design work with speed, pragmatism, and attention to user needs.
