General Summary
Western Michigan University invites applications for the position of Faculty Specialist I – Lecturer, Ethnomusicology & Musicology in the Irving S. Gilmore School of Music in the College of Fine Arts. The position will require in-person instruction on the WMU main campus in Kalamazoo. This is a one-year (academic year) terminal position. The anticipated start date is fall of 2026.
Major Duties
- Teach undergraduate music history and ethnomusicology.
- Teach upper-level and graduate seminars in areas of expertise.
- Teach general classes in world music for non-majors.
- Other teaching duties as assigned.
- Attend departmental faculty and area meetings.
Minimum Qualifications
- Doctoral candidate (ABD) in Ethnomusicology/Musicology from an accredited institution by time of appointment.
- 1 year of prior teaching experience in ethnomusicology and music history as the instructor of record.
Desired Qualifications
- 2 years of full-time teaching experience at the collegiate level.
- Experience teaching research methods and writing-intensive courses.
- Experience with online learning platforms and related technology.
- A vision for how a musicology curriculum should adapt to the changing landscape of musical practices.
