Position Overview
The Vice President of Sales is a strategic executive leader responsible for developing and executing comprehensive marketing sales initiatives that drive revenue growth, strengthen brand awareness, and support national sales objectives within the promotional products manufacturing industry. This role oversees all aspects of sales, product marketing, customer engagement, trade show marketing, brand management, and market positioning while maintaining a direct connection with national sales key accounts and distribution partners.
The VP of Sales will collaborate closely with the Sales Team, Product Development, Operations, Manufacturing, Customer Service, and Executive Leadership to ensure marketing strategies align with company goals, customer needs, production capabilities, and industry trends. This position plays a critical role in driving demand generation, customer acquisition, retention, and market expansion.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
- Develop and execute the company's short- and long-term marketing strategy to support revenue and profitability goals.
- Establish annual marketing plans, budgets, KPIs, and performance metrics.
- Identify market opportunities, emerging trends, and competitive threats within the promotional products industry.
- Serve as a member of the executive leadership team, contributing to overall business strategy and growth initiatives.
Sales & Customer Growth
- Partner closely with the National Sales Team to develop programs that drive customer engagement and sales growth.
- Maintain a direct connection with national sales key accounts to understand customer needs, market opportunities, and industry trends.
- Support strategic account initiatives through customized marketing campaigns and promotional programs.
- Develop strategies that increase customer retention, account penetration, and market share.
Brand & Product Marketing
- Oversee brand positioning and ensure consistent messaging across all customer touchpoints.
- Lead product launch strategies, promotional campaigns, and category marketing initiatives.
- Collaborate with Product Development and Manufacturing to identify opportunities for new products and market expansion.
- Develop compelling value propositions, product positioning, and sales support materials that differentiate company offerings.
- Ensure marketing materials accurately represent product capabilities, decoration methods, and manufacturing processes.
Manufacturing & Decoration Expertise
- Maintain a strong understanding of promotional product manufacturing processes and decoration methods.
- Collaborate with Operations and Production teams to align marketing strategies with manufacturing capabilities and capacity.
- Provide marketing leadership related to product customization, imprinting techniques, and production efficiency.
- Possess working knowledge of pad printing, screen printing, heat transfer, laser engraving, embroidery, and other promotional product decoration methods.
- Assist in educating customers, distributors, and sales teams on decoration capabilities, product applications, and production advantages.
Trade Shows & Industry Events
- Lead Sales strategies for industry trade shows, distributor events, customer visits, and corporate exhibitions.
- Ensure effective pre-show, onsite, and post-show marketing campaigns.
- Maximize brand visibility and lead generation opportunities at key industry events.
- Evaluate event ROI and continuously improve event marketing performance.
Market Research & Analytics
- Monitor industry trends, customer behavior, and competitor activities.
- Utilize market intelligence and customer insights to guide strategic decision-making.
- Measure and report on marketing effectiveness through data analytics and performance dashboards.
- Present marketing results and recommendations to executive leadership.
Team Leadership
- Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing Sales team.
- Foster a culture of creativity, collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Manage agency relationships, vendors, and external marketing partners.
- Oversee departmental budgets and resource allocation.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, Business Administration, Communications, or related field required.
- MBA or advanced business degree preferred.
Experience
- 10+ years of progressive marketing leadership experience.
- 5+ years in a senior leadership role overseeing marketing strategy and execution.
- Experience within promotional products, branded merchandise, manufacturing, print, apparel, or related industries strongly preferred.
- Proven track record of driving revenue growth through strategic marketing initiatives.
- Experience supporting national sales organizations and key account programs.
- Experience of working with manufacturing operations and product decoration processes preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong understanding of the promotional products industry, distributor network, and manufacturing environment.
- Working knowledge of pad printing, screen printing, heat transfer, embroidery, laser engraving, and related decoration technologies.
- Ability to translate manufacturing capabilities into compelling customer-focused marketing strategies.
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and presentation skills.
- Strong analytical and financial acumen with experience managing marketing budgets.
