Quality Assurance Manager – Aerospace Manufacturing
Bridgeport, CT | Full-Time, 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday, 8 AM - 5 PM
Rotair Aerospace Corporation is seeking an experienced Aerospace Quality Assurance Manager to lead our 11-person Quality Department and oversee all quality systems, inspection activities, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement initiatives.
The successful candidate must have strong aerospace manufacturing experience, extensive knowledge of AS9100/IA9100 requirements, and hands-on experience supporting FAA PMA production and Department of Defense contracts.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and develop an 11-person Quality Department consisting of inspectors, quality specialists, and administrative personnel. Train and mentor staff to ensure continued compliance with applicable procedures, standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Partner with Engineering, Manufacturing, Production, Purchasing, and senior management to resolve quality concerns and improve operational performance.
- Promote accountability and a strong culture of quality. Establish meaningful performance metrics and ensure inspection, certification, traceability, and other quality records are accurate and complete.
- Maintain and continually improve the company’s AS9100/IA9100-certified Quality Management System and ensure compliance with FAA PMA requirements, applicable FAA regulations, customer specifications, and government contract requirements.
- Lead internal and external audits, corrective action responses, and follow-up activities. Serve as the primary Quality representative during AS9100/IA9100, FAA, customer, DOD, and other regulatory audits.
- Improve quality procedures, inspection processes, document controls, and department workflows. Lead root-cause analysis and corrective and preventive actions, and oversee nonconforming material, MRB activities, supplier quality concerns, and customer complaints.
Required Qualifications
- Significant quality management experience in aerospace or defense manufacturing, including demonstrated success leading and developing a Quality Department.
- Strong understanding of inspection methods, manufacturing processes, blueprint interpretation, specifications, tolerances, and quality documentation.
- Thorough working knowledge of AS9100/IA9100 Quality Management System requirements.
- Experience supporting FAA Parts Manufacturer Approval (PMA) manufacturing and inspection activities, as well as internal, external, customer, FAA, and government audits.
- Experience with Department of Defense (DOD) contracts and applicable quality requirements.
- Strong knowledge of root-cause analysis, corrective and preventive action, risk management, and continuous improvement methods.
- Excellent leadership, organizational, analytical, and communication skills, with the ability to work across departments and clearly communicate quality expectations at all levels; proficiency with Microsoft Office and electronic quality or ERP systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience within helicopter, rotorcraft, or aircraft spare-parts manufacturing.
- Familiarity with DCMA oversight and government source inspection requirements.
- Experience improving or modernizing an established Quality Management System.
- Knowledge of supplier quality management and aerospace special-process requirements.
- ASQ certification or other relevant quality credentials.
