The Cake Decorator is responsible for preparing and decorating standard bakery cakes and desserts according to established recipes, designs, and quality standards. This role focuses primarily on everyday cakes such as birthday cakes, sheet cakes, cupcakes, and basic custom requests while maintaining consistency, cleanliness, and efficiency in a small bakery environment.
Decorate cakes, cupcakes, and other baked goods using buttercream, icing, piping, and basic fondant techniques.
Prepare and frost standard cakes including round, sheet, and layered cakes.
Write messages and apply simple decorations for birthdays, celebrations, and holidays.
Follow bakery recipes and design standards to ensure consistency in product appearance.
Assist with basic cake preparation including leveling, filling, and crumb coating.
Maintain proper food safety and sanitation practices according to health department standards.
Organize decorating supplies, icing colors, and tools.
Package finished cakes and prepare them for display or customer pickup.
Assist with bakery production as needed (cupcakes, cookies, simple desserts).
Maintain a clean and organized decorating station.
Previous cake decorating experience preferred (bakery, grocery bakery, or culinary training).
Knowledge of basic piping techniques, borders, flowers, and lettering.
Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced bakery environment.
Strong attention to detail and consistency.
Ability to follow instructions and bakery recipes.
Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 25–30 pounds.
Experience with buttercream piping and color mixing.
Basic fondant work.
Creativity with simple cake designs.
Time management and multitasking skills.
Early morning or daytime shifts.Weekend and holiday availability may be required depending on bakery demand.
