Duties
- Assist dentists during a variety of procedures including general dentistry, prosthodontics, endodontics, and dental surgery, ensuring all instruments and materials are prepared efficiently.
- Operate and maintain dental equipment such as X-ray machines, 3D scanners, and medical imaging tools while adhering to infection control and aseptic techniques.
- Take and develop dental radiographs (X-rays), ensuring proper positioning and safety protocols are followed to protect patient health.
- Manage patient records using EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems like Dentrix, Eaglesoft, or Epic, documenting treatment details accurately and securely in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Perform vital signs assessments and monitor patient comfort throughout procedures to ensure a positive experience.
- Maintain a clean, organized clinical environment by following infection control standards and sterilization procedures aligned with healthcare regulations.
- Collaborate with team members in four-handed dentistry setups to optimize workflow efficiency during patient care.
Experience
- Previous experience working in a dental clinic setting is highly preferred, with familiarity in general dentistry procedures and oral surgery dentistry.
- Proficiency in dental assisting techniques including chairside assisting, medical terminology, anatomy knowledge, and infection control practices.
- Hands-on experience with dental software such as Dentrix or Eaglesoft for managing medical records and documentation is desirable.
- Knowledge of medical coding and medical documentation standards to ensure accurate billing and recordkeeping.
- Ability to operate dental imaging equipment including X-ray units and 3D scanners while maintaining safety protocols.
- Strong understanding of HIPAA compliance to protect patient privacy at all times.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain procedures clearly using appropriate dental terminology for patients of all ages, especially pediatrics.
