Position Summary
The Director of Nursing is responsible for overseeing the clinical services and health care operations within a senior living community. This role ensures residents receive high-quality, individualized care while maintaining compliance with applicable regulations and community policies. The Director of Nursing provides leadership, guidance, and support to the care team and promotes a culture of compassion, safety, and excellence.
Minimum Qualifications
- Current and unrestricted Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) license in the applicable state.
- Previous supervisory or leadership experience in assisted living, memory care, long-term care, or a related healthcare setting preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to build positive relationships with residents, families, physicians, and team members.
- Strong assessment, clinical documentation, and organizational skills.
- Knowledge of senior care practices, medication administration, and applicable healthcare regulations.
- Experience developing, training, and mentoring staff.
- Ability to prioritize and adapt in a fast-paced environment with changing resident needs.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Professional demeanor and commitment to customer service.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesLeadership and Staff Development
- Participate in the recruitment, onboarding, supervision, coaching, and performance management of caregiving and nursing staff.
- Develop and oversee staff schedules to ensure adequate coverage and quality resident care.
- Serve as a member of the leadership team and provide operational support as needed.
- Deliver and coordinate ongoing staff education related to resident care, safety, infection prevention, and regulatory compliance.
- Foster a positive work environment through effective communication, teamwork, and accountability.
Resident Care and Clinical Oversight
- Oversee resident assessments, care planning, and service plan updates to ensure individualized care needs are accurately reflected.
- Coordinate and participate in resident and family meetings regarding care concerns and changes in health status.
- Collaborate with physicians, pharmacies, outside providers, and families to ensure continuity of care.
- Monitor resident conditions and ensure appropriate interventions, follow-up, and documentation are completed in a timely manner.
- Perform nursing procedures and clinical tasks within the scope of licensure and in accordance with state regulations.
- Oversee medication management processes, including storage, documentation, administration, and auditing practices.
Quality Assurance and Compliance
- Monitor resident wellness programs related to falls, nutrition, hydration, skin integrity, mobility, behaviors, and other health indicators.
- Review clinical documentation and records to ensure accuracy, completeness, and regulatory compliance.
- Maintain adequate inventory levels of clinical supplies and equipment.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations governing resident care and clinical operations.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and implement corrective actions as necessary.
Resident Experience
