Under general supervision responsible for the fleet maintenance personnel (mechanics, general services, etc.) in the maintenance and repair of the BJCTA’s fleet; including diesel and compressed natural gas vehicles. Applicant must be able to work varying shifts, including nights and weekends
Knowledge of:
1. Supervises staff to include: prioritizing and assigning work.
2. Processes work orders, defect slips, route sheets, fuel reports, employee request forms, mechanic paperwork and other related information.
3. Schedules and prioritizes vehicle maintenance and repair activities; schedules backlog work based on severity.
4. Develops and implements maintenance standards and repair activities; monitors work for quality.
5. Monitors and recommends campaigns to improve the safety and operation of transit vehicles.
6. Ability to diagnose, analyze and recommend solutions for safe and continuous operations of the fleet.
7. Ability to prepare detailed and complex reports.
8. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
9. Ability to analyze and evaluate accident situations and recommend improved operational procedures and methods.
10. Ability to read a map and navigate the metropolitan Birmingham network.
11. Performs on-the-job instruction and training in new repair techniques and the proper use of specialized tools or equipment.
12. Provides technical assistance as needed.
13. Assigns road calls.
14. Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
15. Ability to complete an assigned task in a safe manner and in a constant state of alertness.
16. Must read chemical labels and follow safe handling procedures.
17. Must understand and follow all safety rules.
18. Must be able to work in a cooperative manner with co-workers and supervisors.
19. Perform other duties similar in nature and level as assigned.
20. Must attend mandatory meetings, as required.
Note: We run three shifts: 1st is 7am to 3:30pm, 2nd is 3pm to 11:30pm, and 3rd is 11pm to 7am. These shifts are picked by seniority, so new employees my have to work weekends, evenings or night shift.
