MC Squared is seeking a Construction Materials Laboratory Technician to join our Construction Services team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone interested in developing a career in construction materials testing and geotechnical laboratory work.
Previous laboratory experience and certifications are not required. Training will be provided. We are looking for someone who is dependable, detail-oriented, willing to learn, and comfortable working with their hands in a laboratory environment.
The Laboratory Technician will assist with testing of soil, concrete, masonry, aggregates, and other construction materials while working under the direction of experienced laboratory and engineering personnel.

Perform routine laboratory testing of soil, concrete, masonry, aggregates, and other construction materials in accordance with applicable ASTM, AASHTO, ACI, GDOT, project, and laboratory procedures.

Prepare soil and aggregate samples for laboratory testing.

Perform or assist with testing including:

Moisture content
-
Standard and Modified Proctor testing
-
Sieve analysis and gradation
-
Atterberg limits
-
Soil classification
-
Concrete compressive strength testing
-
Concrete specimen preparation and curing
-
Masonry grout and mortar specimen testing
-
Aggregate testing
-
Other construction materials testing as assigned

Receive, identify, log, store, and maintain proper traceability of laboratory samples.

Retrieve and properly handle concrete cylinders and other field samples.

Maintain concrete curing areas and monitor specimen storage conditions.
-
Accurately document test procedures, measurements, calculations, and results.

Enter test results into laboratory reporting software and assist with preparation of laboratory reports.

Follow established testing procedures and recognize unusual or questionable test results for review by senior laboratory or engineering personnel.

Assist with equipment inspections, routine maintenance, calibration/verification activities, and laboratory documentation.

Assist with proficiency testing and laboratory accreditation activities as directed.

Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory work environment.

Properly dispose of tested concrete, soil, and other materials.

Follow company safety procedures and use required personal protective equipment.

Assist with other construction materials testing or laboratory activities as workload requires.

High school diploma or GED required.
-
Associate's or bachelor's degree in engineering, geology, construction, engineering technology, or a related field is a plus but not required.

No previous construction materials laboratory experience is required.

Previous experience in construction, materials testing, geotechnical work, concrete testing, or DOT-related work is a plus.

Entry-level candidates who demonstrate a willingness and ability to learn are encouraged to apply.

Strong attention to detail and ability to follow written testing procedures.

Dependable and organized.

Comfortable working with basic mathematics, measurements, and calculations.

Good written and verbal communication skills.

Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office.

Ability to learn laboratory reporting and data-management software.

Ability to work independently once trained while recognizing when additional guidance is needed.

Mechanical aptitude and comfort working with laboratory testing equipment are beneficial.
No certifications are required at the time of hire.
The successful candidate will be expected to obtain applicable industry certifications as assigned, generally within the first 3-6 months of employment. MC Squared will provide training and support toward required certifications.

NICET or other construction materials certifications based on job responsibilities
Additional certifications may be pursued as the employee gains experience and responsibilities.
This position involves hands-on laboratory work. The employee must be able to:

Regularly stand, walk, bend, kneel, and work around laboratory equipment.

Lift and move concrete cylinders, soil samples, aggregate samples, and other construction materials.

Safely handle testing equipment and materials.
-
Work in environments that may include dust, moisture, noise, concrete debris, and varying temperatures.

Wear required personal protective equipment.
