Job description:
Required Hours: 7:45 am-5:00 pm, M-F
General Summary of Duties: Responsible for various medical front office tasks, including answering the phone, scheduling appointments, collecting payment, and communicating with staff.
Essential Functions: (This list may or may not include all of the duties assigned)
- Develop and maintain proficiency in the use of the Practice Management System.
- Greets patients in polite, prompt, helpful manner. Provides any necessary instructions/directions.
- Updates patient information, provides any necessary forms needing completion, and obtains signatures as necessary.
- Answers phones in a pleasant manner and deals with patients needs expeditiously.
- Supplements office staff as reception tasks permit by assisting with photocopying, computer input, scheduling laboratory or radiology work as directed.
- Obtains authorizations, referrals, and verifies insurance eligibility.
- Schedules various patient appointments as needed.
- Obtains previous medical records and necessary prior testing.
- Addressing patient conflicts and resolving them accordingly.
Performance Requirements:
- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of reception tasks, clinic policies, procedures, and paperwork. Knowledge of the use of office equipment, including telephones and computers. Knowledge of customer service concepts and techniques. Skill in using office equipment satisfactorily and handling paperwork adequately. Skill in customer service principles by creating a pleasant waiting room atmosphere. Ability to communicate clearly in person and on the phone. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with patients, families, physicians, staff, and other customers. Ability to organize and prioritize tasks effectively. Ability to read, understand, and follow oral and written instructions.
- Education: High school graduation or GED.
- Experience: Minimum of two years of experience in a customer service setting, preferably six months of receptionist experience in health care setting and experience with office equipment preferred.
- 50 wpm typing skill preferred.
- Must pass a Drug screen and Background screening.
