Job Summary:
Associated Hardwoods, Inc. is seeking a dependable and safety-focused Chop Saw Operator to accurately measure, cut, and process lumber to customer and production specifications. This position is responsible for operating a chop saw to produce quality materials while maintaining efficiency, minimizing waste, and ensuring a safe work environment.
This position requires attention to detail, the ability to accurately read measurements and cut lists, and the ability to safely operate equipment in a fast-paced lumber manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate chop saw equipment to cut lumber to specified lengths according to production orders and cut lists.
- Read and interpret production orders, cut sheets, and lumber specifications.
- Measure lumber accurately using a tape measure and verify finished dimensions.
- Inspect lumber for defects and determine the best cutting locations to maximize yield and product quality.
- Maintain proper material flow while meeting production goals.
- Stack, sort, and organize cut material according to production requirements.
- Identify and remove defective or nonconforming material from production.
- Perform routine equipment inspections and report mechanical issues promptly.
- Replace saw blades or assist with blade changes as authorized and trained.
- Keep the work area clean and free of scrap material and tripping hazards.
- Follow all safety procedures, including lockout/tagout requirements when applicable.
- Assist with other production duties as needed.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Previous experience operating chop saws, miter saws, panel saws, or similar industrial woodworking equipment preferred.
- Ability to accurately read a tape measure and perform precise measurements.
- Basic understanding of lumber grades, sizes, and defects preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality products.
- Ability to safely operate powered industrial equipment after training, if required.
- Ability to understand production schedules and work instructions.
- Basic math skills required.
- Ability to work independently while maintaining production standards.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand and remain active for the duration of the shift.
- Frequent bending, lifting, reaching, twisting, and walking.
- Ability to frequently lift up to 50 pounds.
- Exposure to wood dust, noise, vibration, and varying temperatures in a manufacturing environment.
- Required use of personal protective equipment including safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, and steel-toed footwear.
Working Conditions:
Fast-paced lumber manufacturing environment with chop saws, conveyors, forklifts, and continuous material movement. This position requires constant attention to safety, accurate measuring, and maintaining productivity while working around moving equipment and materials.

Typical Schedule:
- Monday – Thursday: 6:00 AM – 3:30 PM
- Friday: 6:00 AM – 10:00 AM
- Schedule may adjust based on business needs.
