Job Summary
We are seeking a compassionate and energetic Patient Care Assistant to join our dedicated healthcare team. In this vital role, you will provide personalized support to patients across various care settings, including assisted living, nursing homes, and home care environments. Your primary focus will be to assist patients with their daily activities, ensure their comfort and safety, and support their overall well-being. Responsibilities
- Assist patients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), such as bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and mobility support using manual handling techniques and equipment like Hoyer lifts
- Monitor vital signs and observe changes in patient conditions to inform care plans and report findings accurately using Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems
- Support medication administration following HIPAA guidelines and established care protocols under supervision of nursing staff
- Prepare nutritious meals tailored to individual dietary needs while maintaining cleanliness and safety standards in meal preparation areas
- Engage in behavior management and conflict resolution strategies to promote a calm environment for residents with dementia or neurodevelopmental disorders
- Support residents’ social engagement by participating in activities that foster mental health, cognitive stimulation, and emotional well-being
- Assist with transportation or driving duties for appointments or outings as needed, ensuring safety at all times
Requirements
- Prior experience working in assisted living facilities, nursing homes, or home care environments is highly preferred
- Demonstrated experience assisting with ADLs and supporting individuals with developmental disabilities or cognitive impairments such as Alzheimer’s or dementia
- Knowledge of medical terminology, first aid protocols, CPR certification, and basic life support (BLS) is required; ongoing training provided if needed
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely and handle manual tasks involving residents’ transfer using Hoyer lifts or other assistive devices
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with patients experiencing mental health conditions or neurodevelopmental disorders
- Compassionate caregiving attitude combined with excellent conflict management and case management skills
- Valid driver’s license for driving duties; clean driving record preferred
- Must adhere to HIPAA regulations ensuring patient confidentiality at all times
