Under the guidance of program leadership, the Refugee Volunteer Coordinator develops and sustains a collaborative volunteer network across Refugee Resettlement Agencies in Michigan. This role ensures effective coordination, supervision, and alignment of volunteer services to support successful program outcomes and refugee integration.
- Recruit, interview, onboard, train, and schedule volunteers.
- Coordinate day-to-day volunteer activities, ensuring services align with organizational and program needs.
- Provide ongoing supervision, guidance, and training in accordance with organizational, program, and contract requirements.
- Conduct performance evaluations and address concerns while maintaining communication with the Senior Refugee Specialist and Program Supervisor.
- Collaborate with local government agencies, businesses, and community organizations to support program service objectives.
- Attend meetings, committees, and faith-based gatherings to strengthen partnerships and promote volunteer engagement.
- Recruit volunteers and expand community involvement in program initiatives.
- Collaborate with colleagues to develop, implement, and maintain:
- A universal screening process for volunteers and collective donations.
- A standardized, cross-agency volunteer coordination model inclusive of all resettlement partners.
- Partner with the Communications and Marketing Department and community organizations to promote services and volunteer opportunities.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or a related field required.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience in volunteer services or a related field required.
- Ability to lead, direct, and support the work of volunteers and team members.
- Strong creativity, initiative, and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated compassion, patience, and commitment to serving refugee populations.
- Basic understanding of refugee services and resettlement processes.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and work independently and collaboratively.
- Ability to work effectively in cross-cultural environments and build positive relationships with staff and clients.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking.
- Proficiency with or ability to learn various software systems and tools.
- Fluency in English (spoken, written, and reading).
- Frequent automobile travel required.
- Valid, unrestricted driver’s license with a good driving record.
- Reliable personal transportation suitable for transporting program participants safely.
- Valid proof of automobile insurance required.
