Our client, an established international manufacturing company, is seeking a Senior Accountant to support its corporate accounting and financial reporting team. This opportunity is ideal for an accounting professional with a strong foundation in public accounting and corporate accounting who enjoys technical accounting, financial reporting, and employee benefit accounting.
The successful candidate will play a key role in benefit-related accounting, period-end close activities, SEC reporting support, and process improvement initiatives while partnering with accounting, finance, and external auditors.
What You'll Do
- Prepare and record journal entries related to employee benefit programs, including pension, postretirement, healthcare, deferred compensation, vacation accruals, equity compensation, life insurance, and retirement savings plans.
- Complete account reconciliations and analyze benefit-related balances to support monthly and quarterly close activities.
- Develop schedules, financial analyses, and supporting documentation for corporate accounting and employee benefit reporting.
- Assist with reviewing actuarial valuations and stock compensation data for financial statement reporting and SEC filings, including Forms 10-Q and 10-K.
- Support annual retirement plan reporting requirements, including documentation associated with Form 11-K filings and audits.
- Research accounting matters and apply GAAP guidance to ensure accurate financial reporting.
- Recommend and implement improvements to accounting processes, reporting workflows, and close procedures.
- Partner with finance, accounting, HR, and external auditors to support reporting and compliance requirements.
- Prepare audit support, respond to information requests, and participate in special accounting projects as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
- Active CPA license required.
- At least four years of progressive accounting experience in public accounting and/or a large corporate accounting environment.
- Previous experience with a Big Four or regional public accounting firm is strongly preferred.
- Experience supporting public company financial reporting or SEC filings is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of employee benefit accounting, pension accounting, stock-based compensation, or postretirement accounting is preferred.
- Solid understanding of month-end close, account reconciliations, and journal entry preparation.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
Technical Experience
- Advanced Microsoft Excel proficiency, including pivot tables, complex formulas, reporting, and large data analysis.
- Experience working within ERP and financial reporting systems.
- Familiarity with applications such as OneStream, Hyperion (HFM), Oracle, JD Edwards, or Power BI is a plus.
- Ability to interpret financial data and provide meaningful reporting and analysis.
