Biederman Redevelopment Ventures (BRV) seeks friendly, responsible individuals as part-time Park Program Staff, reporting to our San Francisco office. BRV is a public space consulting firm and has received a grant from San Francisco’s Office of Economic and Workforce Development to offer free public programming seven days a week at Union Square Park, in the heart of downtown San Francisco. BRV is charged with planning and implementing an extensive calendar of community-based programming and events to draw people to the park and enrich the neighborhood.
A strong candidate will be passionate about public events, urban parks, and other urban planning-related topics. The ideal candidate will enjoy engaging with the public and be comfortable working entirely outdoors. Shifts are conducted both independently and as part of a team, requiring maturity to troubleshoot issues as they arise in a public park setting. Staff will be expected to embrace our park management philosophy and be interested in learning to independently coordinate small programs/events in the park.
This position pays $21.55/hour with the desired start date of August 4th, 2026. The schedule is expected to be approximately 24-30 hours per week, not to exceed 30 hours per week. Most shifts will occur between 8:30 am to 9:00pm with a minimum of one weekend shift per week. Occasionally there are additional morning and evening event needs anticipated. Working hours will be spent in person, outside in the park, with little to no time in an office setting.
Responsibilities include:
· Executing BRV’s robust schedule of public programs and performances, including crafts, music, dance, fitness classes, and children’s activities. Includes greeting instructors/performers, substantial equipment set-up, ensuring programs start and end on time, and counting participants.
· Opening activities on time, closing, and monitoring the park’s free amenity/game areas, keeping the areas neat and orderly, managing materials inventory, and facilitating public use of the materials.
· Working outdoors in the park, interacting with all members of the public, park staff, and programming partners.
· Tracking observation-based data and submitting simple reports and photos using a personal smartphone.
· Setting up or breakdown of all park equipment (tables, chairs, tents, signs, etc.) is required once per shift. This requires the ability to lift 45 lbs., to walk and remain on feet for extended periods of time.
Desired qualifications:
· High school degree or higher
· Interest or background in urban parks, urban planning, event planning, and/or cultural institutions and activities
· Interest and ability to engage with the public in an outgoing, mature and friendly yet assertive nature
· Strong communication and interpersonal skills
· Reliable, responsible, and detail-oriented with excellent observational skills
· Willingness and ability to get hands dirty, with a “no job too small” attitude
· Ability to maintain high energy and positive attitude over the course of the day
· Ability to lift 45 lbs., to stay on feet for extended periods of time, and to walk extensively
· Consistent availability throughout the duration of the programming season
