Location: New Jersey
Job Type: Full-Time
Pay: $32–$40 per hour, depending on experience and certifications
About the Position
We are an established property management company with a large existing customer and property base throughout New Jersey. We currently outsource our routine fire sprinkler inspections and are looking to bring this work in-house.
We are seeking an experienced Fire Sprinkler Inspection Technician who can take responsibility for these routine inspections, testing, documentation, and related service needs for our existing portfolio.
We are not looking for someone to build or run a large sprinkler division. Our goal is to handle the routine inspection work in-house while continuing to outsource larger, more complicated sprinkler projects and specialized work when appropriate.
This gives the right technician an opportunity to step into an established operation with a built-in customer base and steady inspection work, without the pressure of having to generate new business or handle every large or complex sprinkler project.
The ideal candidate holds NICET Level II in Inspection & Testing of Water-Based Systems and meets, or is able to meet, the State of New Jersey requirements to serve as a certified Fire Sprinkler System Contractor associated with our company's Fire Protection Equipment Contractor business permit (P-number).
Backflow testing certification is a major plus.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine fire sprinkler system inspections and testing for our existing customer/property base
- Perform required 25 inspections and other routine sprinkler inspections
- Inspect wet, dry, and other common water-based fire protection systems
- Complete inspection reports and required documentation accurately
- Identify and clearly document deficiencies found during inspections
- Handle basic inspection-related service work within your experience and qualifications
- Help determine when larger or more complicated work should be referred to one of our outside fire protection contractors
- Perform backflow preventer testing and inspections, if properly certified
- Communicate professionally with property managers, building personnel, and customers
- Maintain accurate inspection and compliance records
- Work independently and manage a regular inspection schedule
- Follow applicable NFPA standards and New Jersey requirements
Required Qualifications
- NICET Level II – Inspection & Testing of Water-Based Systems
- Successful completion of the NICET Water-Based Fire Protection Systems Layout Level I examination, or ability to satisfy the applicable New Jersey Fire Sprinkler System Contractor certification requirements
- Knowledge of fire sprinkler inspection and testing procedures
- Experience performing routine sprinkler inspections in the field
- Valid driver's license
- Dependable, professional, and comfortable working independently
- Ability to complete inspection paperwork and reports accurately
Strongly Preferred
- NJ-approved Backflow Prevention Device Tester certification
- Experience performing backflow preventer inspections and testing
- Existing New Jersey Fire Sprinkler System Contractor certification
- Experience with commercial and multifamily residential properties
- Ability to identify common sprinkler deficiencies and minor service needs
What This Position Is — and Isn't
This is a hands-on technician position, not a division manager position.
We already have the properties and customers. We are not hiring someone to go out and build a book of business, manage a large sprinkler department, or take responsibility for every major sprinkler project.
We want a knowledgeable and dependable technician who can help us bring our routine sprinkler inspection work in-house.
When a project requires major repairs, extensive system modifications, specialized engineering, or work outside the technician's capabilities, we can continue using our established outside contractors.
Compensation
$32–$40 per hour, depending on experience and certifications.
Higher compensation may be considered for a candidate who already holds all required New Jersey credentials and a current backflow testing certification.
