Licensed HVAC Service & Installation Technician – JR or JSM Required

We’re looking for an experienced, licensed HVAC Service & Installation Technician who can confidently diagnose problems, perform repairs, and complete quality installations without constant supervision.
Applicants must hold a current New Mexico Journeyman Refrigeration (JR) license OR Journeyman Sheet Metal (JSM) license.
We’re not a large corporate shop. We care about doing the job correctly, treating customers honestly, and giving good technicians the freedom to do their jobs.
Responsibilities
- Diagnose and repair residential HVAC systems
- Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical HVAC problems
- Service air conditioners, furnaces, heat pumps, and split systems
- Install furnaces, condensers, evaporator coils, heat pumps, and complete HVAC systems
- Perform system startups and commissioning
- Check refrigerant charge, superheat, and subcooling
- Perform refrigerant recovery, evacuation, charging, brazing, and pressure testing
- Diagnose airflow and ductwork issues
- Install and troubleshoot thermostats and low-voltage controls
- Perform preventative maintenance
- Communicate findings and repair options clearly with customers
- Complete job documentation accurately
- Read and interpret blueprints and mechanical plans (highly preferred)
- Plumbing experience is a plus but not required
Qualifications
- Current New Mexico Journeyman Refrigeration (JR) license OR Journeyman Sheet Metal (JSM) license required
- EPA Section 608 certification required for work involving regulated refrigerants
- Professional HVAC service and/or installation experience
- Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills
- Working knowledge of furnaces, air conditioners, heat pumps, refrigeration systems, electrical components, and controls
- Ability to work independently and make sound decisions in the field
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
- Must have reliable personal transportation to and from all assigned job sites during the probationary period
- Must own basic HVAC hand tools and basic power tools
- Northern Mechanical provides all large specialty equipment and major job-site tools
