Purpose of the Role
The Grocery Clerk helps create a welcoming and well-stocked shopping experience for customers by maintaining shelves, displays, and back stock areas. This role supports the mission of Weaver Street Market by providing friendly and knowledgeable service while keeping products fresh and appealing, and ensuring a clean, safe store environment. Grocery Clerks embody the values of cooperation, community, and shared success in their daily work and interactions.
A. Primary Duties of the Role

Provide excellent customer service by greeting shoppers, answering questions, recommending products, and assisting with locating items.

Stock shelves, coolers, and other displays according to merchandising standards and rotation practices.

Unload deliveries, check them for accuracy, and organize back stock.

Maintain attractive and organized displays; face products and pull outdated items promptly.
-
Keep aisles, displays, and back stock areas neat, clean, and safe.

Follow opening and closing procedures, including accurate completion of shift checklists.

Use Microsoft Teams to check department messages, store/unit updates, and co-op-wide news. Post and respond as needed to support clear and respectful communication among all employees.

Assist with inventory counts and ordering as assigned.

Serve as a back-up cashier when needed.

Address routine issues; communicate non-routine concerns to the department manager or manager on duty.

Perform other duties as assigned to support all departments and Weaver Street Market as a whole. Serve as back-up cashier as needed.

C. Required Qualifications and Certifications

A working knowledge of English is required for this customer-facing role

18+ years of age
D. Preferred Experience and Knowledge

Previous work in a grocery store or similar retail experience
-
Customer service experience
-
High school diploma or equivalent work experience

Prior work within a co-op or community grocery store

Familiarity with Microsoft Teams and/or Paylocity applications
E. Physical Requirements

Standing and walking for long periods

Lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds (e.g., cases, boxes, stock)

Pushing and pulling pallets or carts of products

Bending and twisting to stock shelves and access storage

Use of ladders to access high shelves

Use of hands and fine motor skills for stocking, cleaning, and product rotation

Use of box cutters and similar tools to open and process product cases
-
Working in refrigerated and freezer areas

Occasional work in outdoor areas (unloading deliveries)

Use of stairs (Southern Village and Raleigh Stores)
