We are looking for the right fit for a fast-paced medical office that needs a sample collector Part-Time.
Daily Schedule:
Tuesday & Friday 8:30 AM-4:00 PM set days
Wednesday & Thursday 8:30 am-4:00 pm are flexible based on the providers schedule.
Responsibilities for Specimen Collector:
- Collects samples from patients- providing proper identification on the cups and paperwork
- Checks laboratory specimens and requisition forms for accuracy.
- Receive, order tests, process, and package for transportation to the reference laboratories for analysis.
- Ensure specimens are labeled properly, and the correct specimen has been submitted for the requested laboratory test by comparing the specimen label to the accompanying requisition.
- Facilitate requested changes from providers or other staff personnel.
- Use a computer system to enter laboratory test orders and patient demographics.
- Quality Control samples, package properly to Lab standards & preps for shipping each day.
- Maintain confidentiality of all laboratory information according to laboratory policy.
Required Skills, Experience, and Education Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Medical experience
- Able to type with speed and accuracy
- Ability to learn the Labs eReq system & possibly the office EMR system
- Able to work independently under general supervision
- Able to work in a fast-paced production environment to meet established turnaround times
- Able to stand on your feet for extended periods
- Able to move quickly when required
- Ability to remain calm when patients or providers are under pressure
- Must be reliable & punctual with reliable transportation
- Must be able to perform work with a high degree of accuracy & strong attention to detail
- Able to effectively transfer knowledge from one situation to a new situation
- Must pass a background check
- Physical Abilities:· Must be tolerant of facemasks, gloves, and unpleasant odors· Stand for extended periods of time; push, pull and reach; occasionally bend, sit, stoop, and stretch.· Have a full range of body motion· Have the hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity needed to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator, and medical equipment.· Have a normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare and communicate appropriate reports; specific vision requirements: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.· Occasionally lift and carry up to 20 pounds.· Must have a valid driver's license and good driving record. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Greets customers appropriately. Treat all customers in a courteous manner.
- Ensures all specimens are collected accurately and in a timely manner.
- Collects specimens according to established procedures. Properly explains in a clear but courteous manner the process of specimen collection (ex. urine or oral) as required. Reduces patient anxiety by providing a calm environment for patients before, during, and after the collection process.
- Completes consent forms accurately and captures the patient's properly signed consent on the proper documents.
- Enters patient, specimen, insurance, or billing information into the computer. Requires attention to detail to maintain a high level of accuracy. Communicate with clients to confirm handwritten orders, verify test(s) ordered, and obtain accurate billing information, i.e. diagnosis codes, UPIN information, etc.
- Researches test/client information utilizing a lab computer system.
- Basic knowledge of drug classes and medical terminology
- Matches laboratory requisition forms to the specimen container. Label, package, and ship with accuracy
- Package specimens for transport. Stores specimen samples according to the required temperature, places samples in appropriate collection container/ tube, accurately labels, and follows different procedures as outlined by specific to protocol deemed necessary for transport to maintain the integrity of the specimen. Demonstrates proficiency in proper collection methods and proper processing of all specimens.
- Maintains required records and documentation.
- Maintains daily records and all appropriate shipping logs.
- Assist with compilation of monthly statistics and data.
- Performs basic clerical duties, i.e. filing, faxing, and preparing mail. The person in this position is required to perform electronic data entry.
- Approves time in attendance software by noon on the Monday following the end of the pay period.

- Utilizes time appropriately. Capable of maintaining fluctuating patient flow.

- Independently performs duties.
- Communicates pertinent information/issues to supervisor, manager, or group leader for resolution.
- Contributes to a positive work climate and to the team effort of the department and company.
- Ensures facilities are neat, clean, and in good repair, takes appropriate action to advise Group Leader or Supervisor of required repairs and maintenance.
- Assist with periodic inventory counts and report shortages and problems to the group leader or supervisor as they occur.
- Utilizes proper PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) to ensure patient and personal safety. Exercises all laboratory safety precautions and adheres to lab procedures as stated in procedure manuals.
- Perform all job responsibilities in alignment with the industry's best security practices and regulatory guidelines to protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of protected health information and other sensitive company data.
- Must be familiar with and abide by the Corporate Compliance Program and all Corporate policies, including the Privacy and Security policies.

Wednesday & Thursday 8:30 am-4:00 pm are flexible based on the providers schedule. This position can change to full-time as the provider increases the patient load.
Punctuality is a must.
