The Substance Use Prevention/Intervention Specialist in LUK’s Residential Services provides evidence-based prevention and early intervention services to youth in a group home setting, focusing on the milieu culture and individual youth needs. This position will provide support and education to youth who have experienced parental substance abuse as well as support and education to parents throughout placement and transitions. The Substance Use Specialist develops positive social norms within the program and counters misperceptions around substance use, using current information and sound psychoeducation. This position will also train and support staff to recognize and address substance use. The Substance Use Specialist will collaborate as part of a multidisciplinary team to address individual youth and milieu needs and assess progress. This position will maintain up-to-date knowledge and resources regarding local substance use services and support groups, and will make referrals as needed. This position will develop a thorough understanding of the role of substance use in trauma reactive behaviors, using this knowledge to impact the change process.
The qualified candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in Human Services or closely related field, with a focus on substance use. The successful candidate will demonstrate a sound understanding of substance use in youth culture, as well as the impact of family dynamics and parental substance abuse. Experience working in a residential setting is preferred. Excellent communication and computer skills required. Valid driver’s license, reliable and safe transportation required.
This is a full-time position located in North Central Massachusetts. Work will take place within the therapeutic milieu and will include community-based travel. Work schedule must accommodate the needs of the youth/family. Bilingual/bicultural candidates are encouraged to apply.
