American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry position requiring a minimum of 2 years of experience and the ability to pass an EKG test prior to start.

MS/Tele unit in a hospital setting

Patient population includes diabetes, dementia, COVID, pneumonia, COPD, sepsis, encephalopathy, GI bleed, anemia, hip fracture, CHF, UTI, surgical recovery cases, renal failure, hypertension, cellulitis, and failure to thrive

Patient ratio of 1:6

Night shift schedule: 18:45–07:15 (4x12-hour shifts)

Every other weekend required

Floating may be required to the main campus location approximately 32 minutes away

No on-call requirements

Pyxis medication dispensing system

Contract length of 13–20 weeks with 36 or 48 hours per week available

Active NC or compact RN license required (may be submitted with license pending)

Current certifications: BLS and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)

Minimum 2 years of relevant RN experience required

Must pass EKG test prior to start

Core required skills include: telemetry interpretation and management, remote monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, wound care/wound vac, chest tube management (Emerson/PleurEvac), BiPAP/CPAP, HFNC, blood product administration, central line blood draw, PICC line management, IV insertion and maintenance, Heparin, Insulin, PCA, phlebotomy, hemodialysis pre/post management, colostomy/ileostomy care, feeding tube management, and isolation precautions/PPE

Must be able to work holidays (2 out of 3 major holidays required)

Two professional references from a manager or supervisor within the past 2 years required (pending at time of consideration is acceptable)

Preferred skills include: ACLS, on-unit telemetry monitoring, post-angiogram, post-cardiac surgery, post-MI, IV insulin protocols, bariatric surgery, CBI, port access/management, CVA, substance withdrawal, surgical drains, ABG interpretation, pre/post thoracic surgery, tracheostomy care, charge nurse experience, and community hospital experience

Orientation is approximately 24 hours with weekly orientation sessions; 8–10 hours of pre-start online modules are required

Scrub color requirement: navy blue or white

RTO is capped at 7 days per contract; RTO cannot be taken during the first week of the assignment and cannot fall on a holiday without facility approval

Candidates who have previously worked for Novant Health or New Hanover as permanent, PRN, or EP staff must wait 12 months before being considered for a traveler position

Contract staff may be assigned to a Storm Team or Hurricane Team and may be required to report during catastrophic events, mass casualty incidents, or disasters; unit consolidation may occur mid-contract

Local candidates are accepted; candidates residing within 50 miles of the facility may be eligible at a different rate
