Job Overview
The Specimen Processor plays a crucial role in the clinical laboratory environment, responsible for the accurate collection, processing, and management of biological specimens. This position requires a detail-oriented individual who can work efficiently in a fast-paced setting while adhering to strict safety and quality protocols. The ideal candidate will possess a solid understanding of laboratory techniques and procedures, ensuring that specimens are handled correctly to facilitate accurate testing and diagnosis.
Responsibilities
- Collect and process various biological specimens, including blood, urine, and other fluids.
- Maintain aseptic techniques to prevent contamination during specimen collection and processing.
- Perform venipuncture and other specimen collection methods as required.
- Ensure proper labeling and documentation of specimens to maintain traceability.
- Conduct routine laboratory procedures following established protocols to ensure high-quality results.
- Collaborate with clinical staff to coordinate specimen collection from patients.
- Adhere to safety guidelines and best practices in handling hazardous materials.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the laboratory workspace.
- Assist in training new staff on laboratory techniques and procedures as needed.
Skills
- Strong knowledge of laboratory management principles and practices.
- Proficiency in various laboratory techniques, including phlebotomy, spinal tap, and catheterization.
- Familiarity with medical terminology and anatomy knowledge relevant to specimen processing.
- Experience in clinical or research laboratory settings is highly desirable.
- Basic life support certification is preferred.
- Understanding of physiology and veterinary terminology can be beneficial.
- Excellent attention to detail with strong organizational skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment while managing multiple tasks effectively.
Job Type: Contract
Pay: $17.00 - $23.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
