Position Summary
The Core Room Operator is responsible for producing sand cores used in the metal casting process. This position operates core-making machines, prepares materials, inspects cores for quality, and ensures production meets safety, quality, and efficiency standards in a foundry environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Operate core-making machines and related equipment to produce sand cores for casting molds.
- Prepare and mix core sand and binders according to production specifications.
- Set up, adjust, and monitor core machines during operation.
- Inspect finished cores for defects such as cracks, breaks, or dimensional inaccuracies.
- Clean and maintain core boxes, tooling, and work areas.
- Apply coatings to cores when required.
- Follow production schedules and meet daily output requirements.
- Identify and report equipment malfunctions or maintenance needs.
- Follow all foundry safety procedures and wear required PPE.
- Maintain accurate production records and quality documentation.
- Assist with material handling including sand, binders, and finished cores.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Previous foundry, manufacturing, or core room experience preferred but not required.
- Ability to read work instructions and basic production documents.
- Basic mechanical aptitude.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly.
- Ability to stand, bend, and move for extended periods.
- Ability to work in a hot, dusty, and noisy industrial environment.
- Ability to wear required PPE including respirators, gloves, and safety glasses.
Skills and Competencies
- Strong attention to detail and quality.
- Ability to follow safety and operational procedures.
- Good teamwork and communication skills.
- Basic troubleshooting ability.
Work Environment
- Industrial foundry setting.
- Exposure to heat, dust, sand, and heavy machinery.
- Shift work, overtime, and weekend work may be required depending on production needs.
Pay: From $15.00 per hour
