Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic School is seeking a dedicated and passionate Bilingual Elementary School Teacher who is fluent in both English and Spanish and is committed to our mission of nurturing students' academic, spiritual, and personal growth. The ideal candidate will be a culturally responsive teacher who can create a nurturing and challenging learning environment where all students can achieve academic and linguistic proficiency while living out the tenets of the Catholic faith.
- Instruction and Curriculum: Develop and deliver engaging, standards-aligned lessons in both English and Spanish. This includes teaching core subjects like math, science, and social studies, as well as literacy and language arts.
- Student Support: Provide differentiated instruction and support to English Language Learners (ELLs), helping them acquire fluency while also mastering grade-level content.
- Assessment: Administer various formal and informal assessments to monitor student progress in both languages and inform instructional decisions.
- Collaboration: Work closely with other teachers, administrators, and support staff to ensure a cohesive educational experience for all students.
- Parent and Community Engagement: Communicate effectively with parents and guardians in their native language to build strong home-school partnerships and advocate for students' needs.
Catholic Faith and Mission:
- Faith Integration: Actively and authentically integrate Catholic values and faith-based lessons into daily instruction and classroom life.
- Spiritual Leadership: Serve as a faith role model for students, leading daily prayer, teaching catechism, and helping to prepare students for school liturgies, prayer services, and other spiritual events.
- Mission-Driven: Actively support and advance the Catholic mission and identity of the school, participating in all required school-wide spiritual activities.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field. A Master's degree in Bilingual Education or a related field is preferred.
- Certification: Valid NYS teaching certification; a Bilingual Education or Extension certification is preferred.
- Language Fluency: Proven fluency in both English and Spanish, including speaking, reading, and writing.
- Experience: Prior experience teaching in a bilingual or dual-language setting is highly desired.
- Skills: Strong understanding of second language acquisition theory, culturally responsive teaching practices, and effective classroom management.
- Faith Commitment: Must be a practicing Catholic in good standing who is committed to the school's religious mission and identity.
