Responsibilities
- Supervise the daily activities of pharmacy staff, including pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, ensuring efficient workflow and high-quality service.
- Oversee medication dispensing processes, including compounding medications and preparing IV infusions with strict adherence to aseptic techniques and safety protocols.
- Manage inventory levels, ordering supplies, and maintaining accurate records to ensure medication availability and compliance with regulatory standards.
- Provide clinical pharmacy services such as patient assessments, medication reviews, pain management consultations, and immunizations.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers on medical management plans, including pediatrics, critical care cases, and acute care scenarios.
- Ensure all pharmacy operations comply with HIPAA regulations and maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
- Utilize pharmacy software, EMR (Electronic Medical Records), and EHR (Electronic Health Records) systems effectively for documentation and patient care coordination.
- Conduct staff training on topics like physiology knowledge, medical terminology, anatomy basics, medication administration techniques, IV insertion procedures, and aseptic techniques.
- Lead efforts in patient service initiatives by assessing patient needs, providing education on medication use, and supporting overall patient care goals.
Qualifications
- Valid pharmacist license with current registration in the relevant jurisdiction.
- Proven experience in LTC (Long-Term Care) pharmacy or hospital settings; critical care experience is highly desirable.
- Completion of a pharmacy residency program is preferred; clinical pharmacy experience is essential.
- Strong knowledge of medical management practices across various specialties including pediatrics and acute care.
- Familiarity with pharmacy software systems, EMR/EHR platforms, inventory management tools, and compounding medications.
- Experience in immunizations administration, IV infusion preparation, aseptic technique mastery, and IV insertion procedures.
- Excellent understanding of physiology, anatomy, medical terminology, pain management strategies, and medication administration protocols.
- Prior pharmacy technician experience is advantageous for team leadership roles.
- Ability to thrive in fast-paced environments while maintaining attention to detail and ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations.
