Job Title: Assistant Coach - Middle School Volleyball
Reports To: Principal/Athletic Director
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
JOB SUMMARY
This position is responsible for assistant coaching and providing direction to student athletes so that they might achieve a high level of skill as well as an appreciation for discipline, sportsmanship and teamwork in athletics.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential duties of this position include the following. Employees in this position perform some or all of the following tasks:

Follows and maintains knowledge of all District policy(ies) and procedures.

Exhibits loyalty to the Head Coach and Santiam Canyon School District sports programs.

Supports and models the overall vision and program philosophy as determined by the Head Coach.

Assists instruction and demonstrates skill sets and techniques necessary for individual and team achievement in athletics.
-
Assists in planning and setting-up activities, practices and games.
-
Respects time allotted to practices as determined by the Head Coach.

Travels with student – athletes on the bus both to and from games.
-
Adheres to all financial policies of the District about the collection and disbursement of money, expenses, and receipts.

Maintains necessary records and completes required paperwork in a specified time and manner.

Enforces discipline policies and emphasizes sportsmanship and healthy lifestyles.

Supervises students in locker rooms at home and away games and ensures appropriate behavior.

Checks and secures all office, storage room, outside doors, locker rooms and all lights after last player leaves after games and practices.

Ensures that appropriate rules and regulations regarding the conduct and eligibility of athletic activities and athletes are explained and followed.

Maintains a safe environment and facilities for student athletes at all times.

Ensures that medical and safety requirements are followed.

Interacts thoughtfully and courteously with students, staff, parents, fellow coaches, and officials and resolves conflict in a professional manner.

Appropriately maintains and secures confidential student records and inquiries.

Professionally represents the school and the District in interactions with student, parents, community, staff and the media

Completes and maintains appropriate certifications and training hours as required.

Assistant Coaches are personally responsible for any fines levied against Santiam Canyon School District because of his/her actions.

Attends work regularly and is punctual.

Other duties as assigned.
MARGINAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Marginal duties of this position include the following. Employees in this position perform some or all of the following tasks:

Attends in-service trainings and staff meetings, as needed.

Sanitizes and cleans equipment.
-
Inspects facilities and athletic fields for health and safety concerns.

Other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
All school employees have some responsibility for supervising students and assisting in maintaining a safe environment.
QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or GED required; prior experience working in schools or coaching student-athletes preferred.

Ability to work effectively with diverse individuals, maintain confidentiality, communicate professionally, resolve conflict, and motivate student-athletes.

Strong verbal and written communication skills in English, with the ability to interact effectively with students, staff, parents, and community members and interpret policies, procedures, and safety documents.

Basic computer proficiency, including email, internet, word processing, and accurate typing skills.

Knowledge of adolescent growth and development, effective behavior management, and the ability to participate in physically demanding athletic activities while exercising sound judgment.

Obtain and maintain all district-required certifications and training, including CPR/First Aid and a valid Oregon driver's license, as required.

The employee must have the ability to demonstrate proper techniques and skills needed for athletic participation.

The work environment combines a standard office with the standard school gymnasium/outdoor athletic event setting. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high depending upon student population and activities. The employee is regularly exposed to wet or humid outdoor weather conditions and hot and/or humid gymnasium environment. Employee may be exposed to bloodborne pathogens.
