American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a 13-week ICU travel assignment in Rapid City, SD, requiring a minimum of 1.5–2 years of ICU experience, Epic proficiency, and TNCC certification.

Mixed ICU setting with 39 beds divided into pods: MICU, SICU, CICU, and TICU — travelers would not float to the CVICU side unless experienced in that specialty
-
Complex patient population including surgical, medical, cardiac, neuro, and trauma diagnoses such as ARDS, MI, CVA/TIA, COVID, post-cardiac cath, post-surgical, and multi-system trauma

Heavy trauma patient population; cardiac experience (CABG/TAVR, 24–48 hrs post-op) is preferred but not required

Patient ratios are acuity-dependent: 1:1, 1:2, or rarely 1:3

Charting via Epic (required); Alaris pumps currently in use (transitioning to Baxter); Omnicell medication dispensing

12-hour night shifts, 48 hours per week

Weekend rotation every other weekend

No on-call requirements

Floating is uncommon but possible to adult floors including Med/Surg or Tele at a 1:4 ratio when overstaffed

Active SD or compact RN license required

Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and TNCC — candidates unwilling to obtain TNCC prior to start will not be considered

Minimum 1.5–2 years of ICU experience, excluding travel experience; 2 years preferred
-
Candidates with 1.5 years of ICU experience plus significant RN experience outside of ICU may be considered on a case-by-case basis

Epic experience required

Experience with IV medications including vasopressors, sedation, and paralytics; hemodynamic lines; proning; ventilator management; and telemetry
-
Experience with Impella, IABP, and CRRT strongly preferred

Must live at least 100 miles from any Monument Health facility to be eligible

2 professional references dated within the past year required for consideration

DOB and SSN required for consideration

Responsibilities include managing complex critically ill patients across surgical, medical, cardiac, neuro, and trauma diagnoses with strong critical thinking and assessment skills
-
Unit support includes 1–2 CNAs per unit plus a mobility float aide, 2 charge RNs overseeing all ICUs, a resource nurse (staffing dependent), 24/7 respiratory therapy, phlebotomy for peripheral draws, and robust physician coverage (3 intensivists on days, 2 on nights, plus an APP on nights)

Orientation consists of a hospital orientation, one 12-hour shift, and one 8-hour shift on the ICU

No RTO will be approved during holidays or during the Sturgis Bike Rally (first 3 weeks of August each year); up to 7 days of RTO may be approved otherwise, provided the full 13-week contract can be accommodated
