About the Role
Layers is seeking a skilled, warm, and detail-oriented Phlebotomist to support our in-person diagnostic testing experience. You will be responsible for collecting and processing blood specimens while ensuring every client feels comfortable, informed, and well cared for.
This role is ideal for someone who combines strong technical phlebotomy skills with excellent patient service and is excited to work in a modern, fast-growing healthcare environment. In addition to blood collection, you may assist with vital signs, client intake, specimen coordination, and general clinic operations.
Responsibilities
- Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection using safe, accurate, and aseptic techniques
- Create a calm and comfortable experience for clients before, during, and after blood draws
- Verify test orders and client information before specimen collection
- Label, prepare, centrifuge, process, store, and package specimens according to laboratory requirements
- Coordinate specimen pickup and delivery with laboratory partners
- Maintain accurate documentation within electronic health record and laboratory systems
- Collect basic vital signs and physical measurements when needed
- Monitor clients for adverse reactions, including dizziness or fainting, and respond according to established safety procedures
- Maintain appropriate inventory levels for collection supplies and notify the team when materials need to be reordered
- Keep blood collection and processing areas clean, organized, and compliant with infection-control and safety standards
- Follow all applicable privacy, safety, laboratory, and specimen-handling procedures
- Assist with client intake, appointment flow, and other clinic operations as needed
- Communicate clearly with clients, laboratory partners, providers, and other members of the Layers team
Qualifications
- Current California Certified Phlebotomy Technician certification
- Demonstrated proficiency in venipuncture and specimen collection
- Experience preparing and processing specimens for laboratory testing
- Strong understanding of infection control, specimen integrity, and patient identification procedures
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
- Ability to help nervous or first-time clients feel comfortable during blood draws
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate labeling and documentation
- Comfortable using electronic health records, laboratory portals, and other digital systems
- Reliable, organized, and able to work independently in a fast-paced environment
- Current Basic Life Support or CPR certification preferred
Preferred Experience
- Experience in a physician’s office, laboratory, wellness clinic, concierge medical practice, or outpatient setting
- Experience with high-volume or advanced laboratory panels
- Experience collecting vital signs or assisting with other noninvasive health assessments
- Experience working in a startup or rapidly growing organization
- Familiarity with specimen shipping and laboratory pickup procedures

Pay: $27.00 - $32.52 per hour
