The Early Childhood Education Director is responsible for overseeing the daily operations, educational programming, and compliance of the 3K and Pre-K programs. This role ensures a safe, nurturing, and high-quality learning environment for children while providing leadership and support to staff, families, and community partners. The Director is responsible for ensuring programs operate effectively, meet all DOE, funder, and regulatory requirements, and maintain a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment for children and families. This position serves as a key liaison between staff, families, school partners, and community stakeholders, fostering strong relationships and promoting positive outcomes for all participants. Responsibilities
Administration
- Oversees daily operations at the preschool program.
- Maintains institutional policies and procedures for the preschool operation.
- Ensures that the school and staff are in full compliance with early childhood governmental laws, regulations and requirements.
- Facilitates preparation for and implementation of parent teacher communications and conferences.
- Assists CEO / HRD / COO in the development of school policies.
- Serves as liaison between Preschool and CBO
- Assumes accountability for the Preschool budget as it relates to whole program
- Complete performance evaluations; maintain confidential records of teaching staff’s employment, evaluations, and staff development activities
- Conduct teaching staff interviews, selection, assignment, and orientation
Enrollment
- Supports strategies to maintain existing students, recruit and grow enrollment.
- Meet and Sustain enrollment goals set by contract requirments.
- Promotes a positive image of the school to existing and prospective families.
Faculty
- Supervises and formally evaluates all preschool staff.
- Assists preschool in setting annual professional goals.
- Conducts frequent classroom observations and provides coaching to teachers as needed.
- Determines personnel requirements, recruiting and evaluation of teaching staff.
- Creates a work environment that encourages team building and staff collaboration.
- Plans and provides staff development opportunities and training.
- Assists Teachers in conducting parent conferences and writing reports as needed.
Education
- Carry out the mission, vision, and values established by the Executive Director and Board of Directors.
- Provide a social and emotional climate that supports and builds group pride.
- Provides a vision for continuous program improvement by remaining current on issues and trends in early childhood education.
- Manage teachers’ lesson plans to ensure they provide and evaluate indoor and outdoor environments, activities and routines which are safe and secure; prevent accidents and illness; encourage play and exploration; promote problem solving and learning; are developmentally appropriate; promote growth in all developmental areas; reflect children’s learning styles
- Guides faculty in achieving educational excellence.
- Oversees program evaluation and staff instruction.
- Collaborates with teachers to plan instructional activities and lessons.
- Conducts classroom teaching and monitors student progress in collaboration as needed.
- Provides leadership in special education needs.
- Maintains school discipline policy in a consistent and respectful manner.
- Provides support for behavioral and learning issues in collaboration with the teachers.
Skill Requirement
- Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education
- NYS Teaching License
- 3-5 Years' experience overseeing Pre-K programs
- Must pass all required City and State background checks
