The Security Officer plays a vital role in ensuring the safety and security of students, professional community, and visitors at St. Margaret’s Episcopal School. This position is responsible for monitoring campus activity, responding to incidents and emergencies, assisting with traffic control, and supporting the implementation of school-wide safety protocols. The Security Officer will serve as a visible and welcoming presence on campus while enforcing school policies with professionalism and discretion.

Monitor school grounds, facilities, and access points to ensure a safe and secure environment.

Conduct routine patrols to deter unauthorized activity and ensure campus is secure.

Respond promptly to emergencies, incidents, or suspicious behavior and notify appropriate personnel or emergency services as needed.

Support implementation of campus safety protocols, drills, and emergency response procedures.

Collaborate with local law enforcement and first responders when appropriate.

Serve as a welcoming presence to families, students, and visitors; provide directions and assistance as needed.

Manage pedestrian and vehicle traffic during daily dropoff, pickup, and school events.

Maintain clear and respectful communication with faculty, professional community, students, and parents regarding safety procedures and concerns.

Assist during special events or afterhours activities to ensure safety measures are in place.

Enforce access control protocols to ensure only authorized individuals are permitted on campus.

Assist with traffic and parking control during events and hightraffic times.

Document and report incidents, irregularities, and safety concerns in a timely and thorough manner.

Support special events and schoolwide activities with a visible security presence.

Maintain accurate records of daily activity reports (DARs), incident reports, and safety observations.

Ensure all activities follow school policies, California state guidelines, and BSIS regulations.

Participate in regular training sessions to stay current on best practices and emergency preparedness.

Valid California BSIS Guard Card.

Minimum of 10 years of experience in security, law enforcement, or a related field.

Strong observational, situational awareness, and decisionmaking skills.

Ability to remain calm and act decisively in emergency situations.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Availability to work evenings, weekends, and special events as required.

Availability to work occasional overtime or flexibility in scheduling for special events or emergencies.

CPR and First Aid certification.

Familiarity with safety and emergency protocols in a school environment.

Hourly Range: $26.00 to $30.00

The Security Officer must be physically capable of responding swiftly to various on-campus situations, including the ability to run short distances, ride a bicycle, and operate golf carts or other school-issued vehicles as needed. This requires frequent walking, standing, and patrolling of the campus across a range of indoor and outdoor environments, including uneven terrain and inclement weather. Officers must also be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, maintain high levels of visual and auditory awareness, and remain alert and mobile for extended periods. The position may require occasional evening and weekend work to support school events and emergency response efforts.
