Position Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented CNC Mill/Lathe Operator to support precision machining operations in a high-performance manufacturing environment. This role focuses on preparing, setting up, and operating CNC equipment to produce aerospace-grade components. The Operator will be responsible for loading programs, verifying setups, performing tool changes, and monitoring machine performance during production. Candidates must be capable of performing in-process inspections with micrometers, calipers, and other precision instruments, while maintaining strict adherence to work instructions, setup sheets, and safety standards. This position is ideal for individuals with strong mechanical aptitude who want to grow into advanced machining roles.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate CNC mills and lathes utilizing provided programs and setups.
- Ability to program parts at an intermediate level.
- Load and unload raw material and finished parts.
- Perform basic tool changes and offset adjustments as directed.
- Conduct in-process inspections using calipers, micrometers, and other gauges.
- Maintain part quality and adherence to specifications.
- Keep machines clean, organized, and properly maintained.
- Report production issues or quality concerns to the supervisor or lead machinist.
- Must be able to program using MasterCam.
Qualifications
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- 2-4 years of CNC machine operation experience (or technical training).
- Basic understanding of machining processes and manufacturing safety practices.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints (basic GD&T knowledge preferred).
- Familiarity with precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, gauges).
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.
- Willingness to learn and grow into advanced machining responsibilities.
Candidate Skills Assessment
Candidates selected for further consideration may be required to complete a hands-on machining skills assessment as part of the hiring process. The purpose of this assessment is to verify that the candidate can independently perform the core requirements of the position, including reading a drawing, programming, setting up, and machining a part safely and accurately. During the assessment, the candidate may be provided with a sample drawing and will be evaluated on the ability to:
- Review and interpret the drawing, tolerances, notes, and requirements.
- Create a CNC program using Mastercam.
- Select appropriate tooling, workholding, speeds, feeds, and machining strategy.
- Set up and operate the machine safely and correctly.
- Load the program, verify offsets, and perform setup checks.
- Machine the sample part according to the drawing requirements.
- Perform in-process and final inspection using calipers, micrometers, and other inspection tools.
- Maintain safe work practices, machine cleanliness, and professional conduct.
Successful completion of the skills assessment is required to continue in the hiring process. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to program, set up, and machine parts with minimal supervision.
