American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Pediatric ICU (PICU) position in Rapid City, SD, requiring at least 1.5 years of PICU experience and proficiency with Epic in a combined Gen Peds and PICU setting.

Works across both a 15-bed General Pediatrics unit and a 5-bed PICU

General Pediatrics patients range from 0–18 years of age, including adult overflow (stable medical cases such as post-appendectomy, cellulitis, etc.), with diagnoses spanning respiratory illness, diabetes, septicemia, hyperbilirubinemia, mental health, trauma, neurology, and general surgeries (ENT, GI, urological, orthopedic, neurosurgery)

PICU patients are 0–18 years of age requiring critical or intensive care for conditions including acute/chronic respiratory insufficiency, circulatory failure, infectious disease, endocrine and metabolic disorders, neurologic disease, toxic ingestions, trauma, and hematologic/oncologic disease

Patient ratios: 1:5 in General Pediatrics; 1:1–2 in PICU

Charting system: Epic (experience required); Omnicell medication dispensing

12-hour variable shifts, 48 hours per week

Every other weekend rotation required

All holiday coverage required

Floating may include the NICU (feeder/growers, 1:3 ratio) and General Pediatrics (up to 1:5 ratio)

May be placed on low census/on-call

Active RN license — South Dakota license or Compact RN license required

Current certifications: BLS, PALS, and NIHSS

Minimum 1.5 years of PICU RN experience required

Proficiency with Epic EMR required

Ability to titrate drips and provide care for mechanically ventilated patients

Physical assessment skills across the lifespan (ages 0–adult)

Two professional references dated within the past year required for consideration

DOB and SSN required for consideration

Must reside more than 100 miles from the facility to qualify for this position

Orientation includes 1 day of facility orientation (online and in-person) followed by 2 days of unit orientation with a preceptor
-
Unit support includes CNAs (1:5 ratio), a free-floating charge nurse covering both units, Respiratory Therapy, Hospitalist with Pediatric APP support, Pediatric Pharmacy, Phlebotomy (RNs and Nurse Aides draw their own labs), IV/VAT support (RNs start their own IVs with ultrasound available for difficult access), and Case Management and Social Work
