Calvary’s Communications Associate executes our communication strategy across digital (web, social, email) and print platforms to convey the church's vision, support ministries, promote events, and engage the congregation and external audiences.
Essential Skills & Qualifications:
- Experience in communications, marketing, or related fields.
- Proficiency in digital platforms, social media, and content management systems.
- Strong writing, editing, and graphic design skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively and strategically as well as independently.
- Understanding of church culture and ability to communicate values and vision clearly.
Key Responsibilities
Digital & Web: Update website content, manage social media channels/write and schedule posts, and create digital assets (graphics/posters weekly, videos occasionally).
Content Creation: Produce weekly and monthly newsletters, service visuals, brochures, sermon graphics, Sunday announcements visuals and text, and special promotional/outreach materials.
Branding & Design: Ensure all communications reflect the church's brand, values, and aesthetic standards, often requiring design software skills (Adobe Suite, Canva, Constant Contact, etc)
Media & PR: Manage external communications with media outlets and community partners in close coordination with Senior Pastor and Elder Board Chair.
Collaboration: Work with pastors, ministry leaders, and volunteers to gather content and promote events. At least annually attend planning sessions with church leadership to clarify scope and develop overall communication plans and priorities that align with church goals, and identify key messages for internal (primacy focus) and external audiences (secondary). Includes occasional internal pledge campaigns, external funding appeals, and grant strategy and writing.

- Reports to the Senior Pastor
- Supports pastors, elders, members, and Faith & Justice team
- 8-12 hours per week, with ~50% in office (no weekends)
- Hourly Rate: $22-$25/hour
Attend weekly staff meetings and/or meet routinely with the senior pastor to set priorities for week/season and to develop systems/solutions that improve outcomes and efficiencies.
Sampling of Routine Tasks and Responsibilities
- Manage Calvary Facebook with weekly routine posts/events shared, more if the calendar dictates. Deploy additional social media presence (i.e. Instagram) as directed.
- Create 1-2 drafts of Happenings weekly e- newsletter then send final by agreed upon deadline.
- Create additional email communications as directed, including special message/events and monthly Social Justice newsletter.
- Manage Constant Contact email distribution list, including adding new people weekly
- Update and Manage online church membership directory Instant Church Directory (welcome new people and set up their accounts/access).
- Create and share with staff/collaborators a slideshow for the upcoming Sunday service. Ensure the slide show is complete by Thursday before the worship service. Prepare announcer texts weekly.
- Manage Calvary website; create event images/posters as needed, add events and update general content as directed. Lead semi-annual content review and make updates once approved by pastors
- Design event signage, banners, posters, etc. for all normal church events and for special events as directed.
- Update and Manage Church Calendars (Google/website, Events Page, etc.)
