BASIC FUNCTIONS:
In a learner capacity and under the direct supervision of the District Director, the District Intern will be responsible for general office duties including monitoring and responding to the public inbox for the Member. Applicants must be organized, detail-oriented, and able to work well with others.
DUTIES:
In a learner capacity and under the direct supervision of the District Director, the ideal candidate will be able to work in a fast-paced, professional environment and assist with constituent services and casework as needed.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
Strong oral and written communication skills are essential in addition to proficiency with Microsoft Office and PCs. Familiarity with legislative culture and process is preferred.
Before being hired, candidates for this position are required to participate in the Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) Employee Pull Notice Program and must complete a DMV Form INF 1101, which authorizes the release of their driving record to the Senate Rules Committee. You must possess a valid California Driver’s License with a clean driving record. In addition you are required to have proof of liability insurance at all times. NOTE: Information from your driving record will be shared with the hiring supervisor which may impact your hiring status.
LOCATION, SALARY AND FILING DATE:
This position is located in Stockton, CA and requires in person attendance.
The Senate’s core business hours are 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. However, scheduling for interns may need to be more flexible depending on the office needs.
Interns hired to work fulltime or 35 hours per week, must conclude their internship in three months or less.
All paid internships must conclude within six months, unless the intern is working less than half-time (17.5 hours per week).
Interns who are under the age of 18 are only authorized to work remotely.
Salary is $21 per hour.
No benefits provided with this classification.

WRITING SAMPLE REQUIREMENT:
Submit a 1-page writing sample (approximately 350 words) in the form of a formal letter from the Member congratulating Jim Doe on their recognition of a local award. The letter should reflect professional tone, clarity, and appropriate constituent correspondence style.
Please include at least two references, with contact information, who can speak to your work ethic, professionalism, or academic performance.
