Education requirements are:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent and Vehicle Mechanic journeyman’s card or six (6) years’ experience in the trade.
Skills requirements are:
- Mathematics – add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers and common fractions.
- Language – read and interpret the following documents: safety policies, follow all operating and maintenance procedures, follow all emergency procedures and various manuals, write routine reports and correspondence, and use communication skills with coworkers.
- Reasoning ability – ability to apply common sense and understanding; ability to carry out detailed but uninvolved written and oral instructions; and the ability to interact with coworkers through communications and acceptance of expectations and accountability.
- Mechanical aptitude
- Practical skills using specialized testing equipment, precision measuring instruments and hand/power tools.
- Communication skills.
Essential experience required:
- High standard of integrity and professionalism.
- Strong working knowledge of job site safety as well as ability to complete a company specific safety orientation
- Hold a Vehicle Mechanic Journeyman’s card or 6 years of experience as a Vehicle Mechanic
- Experience in welding (arc and acetylene), engine repair (gas/propane/diesel), electric motors, electronics, preventative maintenance, service and records, hydraulics and general auto and truck repair (chassis/springs, steering drive train, brakes, cooling, batteries, fuel systems, body repair and painting).
Essential job functions:
- Troubleshoots mechanical and electrical issues pertaining to plant vehicles.
- Obtains or requests the purchase of necessary parts and repair materials.
- Installs new parts, repairs damaged parts, aligns and adjusts various mechanical and electrical systems and test results of repairs performed.
- Performs routine maintenance of a wide array of automotive equipment including Company cars, trucks, power sweepers, forklift trucks, mobile cranes, tractors, power lawn mowers, electric carts, diesel equipment, air brakes and leased equipment.
- Performs tasks such as repairing body and frame damage involving minor welding, heating and straightening, dent removal and spray painting/finishing.
- Maintains records and follows recordkeeping processes, including equipment maintenance scheduling
