Cook – American Yacht Club (Rye, NY)
Hourly Rate: $21–$24
Schedule: Full-Time | Average 36–40 hours per week (Some overtime may be available seasonally)

Position Overview
The Cook is a foundational member of the culinary team, responsible for both prep and service execution across multiple outlets. This role requires flexibility, consistency, accountability, and pride in craftsmanship.
Cooks at AYC are not strictly classified as “prep” or “line” cooks. Each cook is expected to contribute across preparation, service, and support functions. While cooks are generally assigned roles that align with their strengths, the ability to adapt and assist where needed is essential to the success of the team.
Every cook is expected to prep, cook, clean, communicate, and contribute.
Core ResponsibilitiesService Execution
- Execute à la carte and banquet dishes to AYC standards of flavor, consistency, and presentation
- Fire and plate dishes accurately and efficiently during service, coordinating closely with expo and fellow cooks
- Maintain composure, communication, and urgency during high-volume and high-expectation services
- Verify and log hot/cold holding temperatures and follow all food-safety procedures
- Finish and garnish plates with attention to detail and pride in presentation
Prep & Production
- Complete daily mise-en-place, including, but not limited to:
- A la carte line preparation
- Banquet preparation
- Sauce and stock production
- Protein fabrication
- Basic pastry and dessert prep as assigned
- Follow standardized recipes, yields, and portion controls provided to you by the Chef and Sous Chefs
- Properly label, date, rotate, and store all products
- Assist with receiving, organizing, and storage of deliveries
- Contribute ideas for specials, staff meals, and menu development when appropriate
Station Ownership & Stewardship
- Fully prepare assigned stations before service, ensuring all tools, equipment, and products are ready
- Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient workstation at all times
- Complete opening and closing responsibilities thoroughly and without shortcuts
- Assist teammates with station breakdowns and kitchen resets as needed
- Take ownership of shared spaces and equipment, not just individual stations
Team & Club Culture
- Work collaboratively with the entire BOH team to ensure smooth service flow
- Communicate clearly, respectfully, and professionally with peers and leadership
- Demonstrate reliability, accountability, and a team-first mindset
- Support a positive kitchen culture built on learning, feedback, and pride in work
- Uphold AYC expectations for professionalism, appearance, and conduct
What We’re Looking For
Experience
- 3–5+ years of professional kitchen experience preferred
- Club, resort, hotel, or fine-dining experience is a plus, but not required
Skills
- Solid knife skills and foundational cooking techniques
- Ability to follow recipes, scale production, and manage time effectively
- Working knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and temperature control

Requirements
- Reliable transportation
- Open availability, including nights, weekends, holidays, and peak season
- Valid food-handler card (or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire)
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs
- Stand for extended periods
- Work indoors and outdoors (grill, pool, regatta service during peak season)
