MDS Coordinator Job Description
Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented MDS RN Coordinator to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in managing the assessment process for residents in skilled nursing facilities. This position requires a strong understanding of medical documentation, coding, and compliance with healthcare regulations. The MDS Coordinator will collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure high-quality patient care and accurate documentation of medical records.
Duties
- Conduct comprehensive assessments and reviews of patient documentation to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations.
- Coordinate the completion of Minimum Data Set (MDS) assessments and ensure timely submission to appropriate agencies.
- Review medical records for accuracy and completeness, ensuring all necessary documentation is present.
- Collaborate with nursing staff, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to gather relevant information for assessments.
- Utilize knowledge of physiology and medical management to support care planning and quality improvement initiatives.
- Provide training and support to staff regarding MDS processes, coding practices, and documentation standards.
- Stay updated on changes in regulations related to managed care, acute care, and MDS requirements.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in documentation review, medical records management, or related fields within a healthcare setting.
- Strong knowledge of coding practices as they relate to medical documentation.
- Familiarity with acute care environments and managed care principles is preferred.
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail for accurate data entry and record maintenance.
- Ability to work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team while maintaining effective communication skills.
- A background in healthcare or nursing is advantageous with at least 3 years of MDS experience.
