Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Referral Specialist to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in managing patient referrals, ensuring that all necessary documentation is completed accurately and in a timely manner. This position requires a strong understanding of medical terminology, coding, and insurance verification processes. The Referral Specialist will work closely with medical offices to facilitate seamless patient care while adhering to HIPAA regulations.
Responsibilities
- Manage and process patient referrals to specialists, ensuring all necessary information is collected and submitted.
- Verify insurance coverage and eligibility for referred services.
- Maintain accurate medical records and documentation in compliance with HIPAA standards.
- Utilize ICD-10 coding for accurate diagnosis reporting.
- Communicate effectively with patients, healthcare providers, and insurance companies to coordinate care.
- Assist in resolving any issues related to referrals or insurance claims.
- Stay updated on managed care policies and procedures to ensure compliance.
- Provide support for medical coding tasks as needed within the office.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in a medical office or dental office setting preferred.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology and coding practices, including ICD-10.
- Familiarity with HIPAA regulations and patient privacy standards.
- Experience with insurance verification processes is highly desirable.
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a collaborative team environment.
- Proficiency in using electronic health record (EHR) systems is an advantage.
