Job Description:
Completes the official birth certificate for every infant born and select death certificates in conjunction with Patient Placement. Conducts the second interview with patients to review information and have the mother authenticate the infant’s birth certificate. Enters and submits birth certificates and death certificates to the Bureau of Vital Statistics within five days of birth. Updates the infant’s name in the computer system after discharge. Ensures the accurate and timely submission of monthly statistical reports to the state, as required by law. Assists with room audits for Safe Sleep initiative when time allows. Cross-trained to Patient Unit Coordinator role on MBU to assist as needed. Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Proficient with computer programs with word processing: Word, Excel [Required]
- Demonstrates interpersonal skills by effectively communicating with patients, family, nursing staff, and government agencies [Required]
- Strong emphasis on organizational skills and attention to detail with the ability and willingness to multi-task [Required]
- Ability to work independently or in a team environment [Required]
- Displays professional interactions with all levels of internal customers as demonstrated by work history and interview process [Required]
- Previous medical record or physician office experience [Required]
- Computer skills [Required]
- Excellent communication skills [Required]
- Prior knowledge of the electronic submission of birth certificates to state agencies [Preferred]
