Lead Estimator to take ownership of our estimating and bidding process. This individual will work directly with senior management and will be involved in the full lifecycle of each opportunity—from the initial invitation to bid through takeoffs, pricing, proposal submission, revisions, follow-up, and project handoff.This position could be a strong fit for someone with a few years of experience in estimating, civil construction, project coordination, engineering, or construction management. We are also open to an ambitious recent college graduate who is analytical, detail-oriented, comfortable working with numbers, and interested in building a career in civil construction.Prior estimating experience is preferred but not required. The estimating process and our specific scopes of work can be learned by the right person. We are looking for someone who is organized, eager to take ownership, comfortable managing multiple deadlines, and able to succeed in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
- Manage the company’s estimating and bidding process
- Review invitations to bid, construction plans, specifications, and addenda
- Perform quantity takeoffs from civil, landscape, erosion-control, and site-development plans
- Identify applicable scopes of work and project requirements
- Prepare cost estimates, pricing, and customer proposals
- Request and organize pricing from suppliers and subcontractors
- Manage bid deadlines and prioritize opportunities
- Track plan revisions, addenda, scope changes, and proposal versions
- Maintain accurate version control of drawings, takeoffs, pricing, and bid documents
- Communicate with general contractors, customers, suppliers, and internal operations personnel
- Follow up on submitted bids and proposals
- Assist with the handoff of awarded projects to project management and field operations
- Maintain and improve estimating templates, pricing databases, production rates, and bid-tracking systems
- Develop an understanding of labor, material, equipment, production, and mobilization costs
- Help build and improve the company’s estimating function as the business continues to grow
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or associate degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Business, Finance, or a related field preferred
- Recent college graduates and early-career candidates are encouraged to apply
- One to five years of experience in estimating, civil construction, engineering, project coordination, or construction management is preferred
- Ability to read, or quickly learn to read, civil construction plans and specifications
- Strong analytical and mathematical skills
- Excellent organization and attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple bids, deadlines, revisions, and priorities simultaneously
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and general computer applications
- Experience with takeoff, estimating, bid-management, or construction software is helpful but not required
- Willingness to learn the company’s services, production rates, and field operations
- Ability to work independently while communicating closely with management and operations
