Position Summary
Signature Millwork is seeking a detail-oriented and technically skilled Shop Drawing Engineer to join our team. This role is responsible for translating architectural and interior design intent into precise fabrication-ready shop drawings for custom millwork and casework that meet submission standards for review and approval. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with AutoCAD and/or Microvellum, a strong understanding of wood materials and joinery techniques, can engineer for constructability and durability, and has the ability to collaborate cross-functionally with project managers, designers, and shop floor personnel.

Key Responsibilities
- Interpret architectural drawings, blueprints, sketches, and specifications to produce accurate shop drawings for custom millwork and casework
- Create detailed, fabrication-ready 2D and 3D drawings using AutoCAD, Microvellum, or equivalent CAD software
- Prepare complete construction documentation including cut lists, bills of materials (BOM), and assembly drawings
- Review drawings for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with company standards, building codes, and customer requirements
- Develop approval drawings and coordinate sign-off with customers, project managers, and architects prior to production release
- Assign proper materials to products, including attention to thickness, board sizes, grain/pattern direction, and hardware specifications
- Collaborate with shop floor personnel and production teams to resolve manufacturing concerns and support continuous improvement
- Work with Project Managers and Construction Managers to ensure accurate detailing and specification of millwork throughout each project phase
- Track and manage drawing revisions, changes, and as-built documentation throughout the project lifecycle
- Participate in site measurements and field verification as needed to ensure accuracy of fabrication documents
Qualifications
Required
- 2+ years of experience in millwork, casework, cabinetry, or related architectural woodworking drafting
- Proficiency in AutoCAD; experience with Microvellum is a strong plus
- Ability to read and interpret architectural and interior design drawings and specifications
- Strong understanding of wood materials, joinery methods, hardware, and finish specifications
- High attention to detail and organizational skills
- Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
Preferred
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Drafting Technology, Engineering, Architecture, or related field (or equivalent work experience)
- Experience with CNC programming and G-code generation
- Familiarity with AWI (Architectural Woodwork Institute) quality standards
- Knowledge of construction industry practices and millwork installation
