POSITION SUMMARY:
The Electrician Helper or Apprentice Electrician will work under the direct supervision of an Electrician or Journeyman in support of maintenance, operations, and repair of electrical systems in the oil & gas industry. They will help perform installations and maintenance tasks to ensure the effective operations of various electrical equipment. This will involve basic tasks such as handling the tools and may also include working independently from the Journeyman on electrical tasks requiring less skill or experience. As the Electrical Apprentice progresses, they will be given more independence in completing tasks. Therefore, they are responsible for learning all procedures for installing and maintaining electrical systems and local and federal regulations and safety requirements.
ESSENTIAL ACCOUNTABLIITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· The Apprentice Electrician will assist with testing malfunctioning equipment, identifying defects, troubleshooting, repairing equipment, and replacing defective parts. The Electrician Apprentice and Electrician will collaborate with other electrical staff to identify and solve problems.
· The Apprentice Electrician will assist the Electrician in completing electrical wiring tasks, alignment adjustments, and equipment calibration following manuals, schematics, diagrams, blueprints, and equipment specifications.
· Test electrical and equipment and parts for continuity, current, voltage, and resistance
· Installs, repairs, or replaces AC/DC motors and drives, transformers, motors, starters, relays, and hydraulic and gas electrical controls
· Installs repairs, or replaces electrical wiring, receptacles, switch boxes, conduits, feeders, fiber-optic and line assemblies, lighting, and alternative electrical parts
· Installs, repairs, or replaces generators and industrial storage batteries
· Do preventive maintenance and testing of electrical systems (including power distribution equipment)
· Install electrical circuits, as well as panels, conduit, protecting devices, switches, and equipment required to accommodate the CEC and NEC
· Works on electrical failures and replace components wherever production time is often affected
· Corrects connections and wiring on equipment controls wherever incorrect applications may cause harm and dangerous conditions
· Conduct preventive and maintenance programs and also keeps maintenance records
· May install, maintain and calibrate industrial equipment and connected devices
· Complies with standards and procedures of industry, Safety Manual, and abides by safety rules.
· All other duties as assigned.
Helper / Apprentice Levels 1-4 tasks (not all-inclusive)
· Apprentice 1 – Entry Level Position
o Digging trenches for running underground electrical pipe (conduit)
o Set poles
o Load/unload equipment and material
o Pull wire and install electrical devices (maybe small or large)
o Learn how to bend conduit and install it
o Get material to help the journeyman complete tasks
o Clean up at the end of the day.
· Apprentice 2 – Semi-Skilled Position
o Wireman-type work,
o Set cable tray,
o Learning wire terminations
· Apprentice 3 – Advanced semi-Skilled Position
o Pull wire
o Terminate conduit
o Run cable tray rack
o Terminate Starter
· Apprentice 4 – Green Journeyman
o Working in Instrumentation and control cabinets
ROLE REQUIREMENTS:
· Demonstrating knowledge of electrical codes
· Color Vision: Apprentice electricians work with colored wiring and must be able to identify them by sight.
· Troubleshooting: Apprentice electricians must be able to find the root cause of issues and think logically about solutions.
· Customer Service: Apprentice electricians often work for many customers and must be friendly when on-site.
· Critical Thinking: When diagnosing problems, apprentice electricians must think critically in their process of repairing the issue.
· Mechanical Skills: Apprentice electricians read blueprints and schematics and use various tools and diagnostic devices to service and install electrical parts.
REQUIRED ROLE EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION:
· Must possess a valid driver’s license
· Obtaining Electrical Trainee Certification according to state requirements
· Ideal candidates will have 1-3 years of hands-on electrical experience or training, with exposure to industrial, manufacturing, oil & gas, utility, data center, or heavy commercial environments. Graduates of electrical trade programs with industrial-focused coursework are encouraged to apply.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
· Willing to work 40 - 60 hours per week and be available for callouts
· Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. regularly and stand for extended periods
· Adverse working environment: Exposure to noise, extreme temperature, dirt, dangerous machinery, and other hazardous conditions requiring safety adherence and PPE equipment.
Must have the ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE), including flame-resistant clothing, safety glasses, gloves, and respiratory protection as required.
