Key Duties & Responsibilities
Materials
- Operate Forklift and equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
- Use appropriate motorized and manual equipment, including pallet jack and dolly.
- Accurately load trucks according to outgoing invoices.
- Receive inbound material and put away.
- Complete work orders and receiving documents accurately.
- Help maintain excellent lumber yard presentation.
- Assist customers with loading their vehicles.
- Assist with yard returns and exchanges.
- Secure freight inside trailers using appropriate tools and supplies.
- Work in a safe, efficient manner, adhering to company safety policies.
- Use mobile handheld devices to scan and track shipments.
Estimating/Project Management/Sales
- Learn and demonstrate how to source new customer leads/sales
- Learn and demonstrate how to estimate project cost, bid submission, customer service and execute basic pricing strategy
- Learn and demonstrate how to review specifications and drawings, attend pre-bid meetings, and analyze project requirements to ensure proposals capture all scope of work.
- Learn how to coordinate and respond to Request for Proposal (RFP), Request for Information (RFI) submittals, change orders, and other standard project requirements.
- Maintain bid log and submit associated reports.
- Learn and demonstrate how to source and manage a team of installers to ensure projects are built to our high-quality standard, on-time and on budget to safety standards.
- Demonstrate learning on how to develop project schedule, equipment plan, and staging plan for each project.
- Work with internal invoicing and collections team to ensure projects are invoiced and collected in a timely fashion.
- Responsible for ensuring customer satisfaction.
- Participate and attend sales meetings.
- Help negotiate subcontracts, purchase orders, and change orders by working with internal Supply Chain team.
- Manage project submittals, schedule, and budget to achieve maximum profitability.
- Follow up on post bid projects.
- Complete special projects as needed.
As a Perm Fence Summer Intern, you will learn hands on from our dynamic team, from materials movement, project planning, scheduling, and customer relationships. Your primary responsibility for the summer is to learn in a hands-on environment building materials, basic project management/sales including take-offs, and customer satisfaction. This position will report to members of the building materials management team and perm fence estimating/project management team.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Experience working in a building materials yard a plus
- Must be able to become forklift certified
- High school degree and some college coursework in construction, business, or related fields.
- Commercial construction or sales experience a plus.
- Experience with take off software a plus
- Basic communication and problem-solving skills.
Strong organization skills a must.
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, and OneDrive).
- Must be able to pass a drug screen and background check.
- Must have valid DL and clean driving record.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
- Will be exposed to all types of weather on a regular basis.
- Lift freight and other objects of various shapes, sizes, and weight (up to 50 lbs.) regularly
- Safely walk and stand for extended periods of time on a loading dock that is not climate-controlled and may be slippery.
- Reach (including above your head), bend, climb, push, pull, twist, squat and kneel as necessary.
- Must have reliable transportation.
- Travel requirements throughout central Texas and surrounding areas.
- Ability to visit and move about construction job sites.
